Love,love,love this series but....
Love this series so much. I’m thrilled I found it,butBut why o why does Eve have to fall into that tired tropeOf the kickass/badass heroine who works herself down to the bone, has little to almost no life outside of her chosen calling and wears martyrdom around her like most of us breathe?Deep sighI adore Eve ,really I do. You don’t make it this far if you don’t like or identify with you FMC at least a little bit. And often I do but there are times when her narrow and short sighted view of the world is kinda tiring . The way she’s been so singularly focused on being a cop, that’s she’s missed 80-90% of cultural references most ppl take granted is one thing but the quick dismissive judgmental attitude, please. The more you know,Eve,the more you know. You’d think she’d realize that you know when what seems like a useless bit of trivia might just break a case wide open.I know all these books center around her job as a cop and that’s fine . But while I’m grateful she has grown and changed and expanded in these 30 odd books and novellas ,and deeply grateful for finally a story where her past abuse as a child isn’t brought up ad nausea , seriously grateful. Why can’t we finally have an Eve who is just a tab less selfish and self absorbed?I mean sure, sure I often say what a selfish lil B Peabody can be,Mavis too but Eve kinda tops the lost at times doesn’t she.I mean sure her job at stoping murders and killers is of course important butEve only seems to think about that and somewhere down the line herselfShe take horrible care is herself and wouldn’t ever see Roarke if he wasn’t determined to be a Padres of her life.Sure she does recognize how blessed she is to have someone who is so determined to understand her abs her life abs be apart of itBut that’s just itRoarke gives so much and she mainly takes ...If their relationship depended of her taken a true interest in his life in return ,they’d never have gotten off the ground .Maybe the business world isn’t t her thing ,and that’s fine but she could at least try. I love Eve on the whole and this series so much I don’t ever want to catch upI want there to always have a new book waiting for me to read, even though I know that’s unrealistic. But I just wish for a Eve that was more grateful and appreciative of what she has ( B I’d so kick to the curb and take Roarke for my own if I could ) and more open and less proud of her own ignorant ignorance, just because you don’t know something Eve doesn’t mean it’s not important.Ps. Not a bad story but like soo many all the time is spent on the chase and hard,y any one the reveal. After spending the whole book chasing the monsters I want to spend more time getting the satisfaction of the payoff of seeing them squirm and explain and pay for their crimes. The chase starts to feel empty and fruitless after a while, when after all the effort stalking and chasing and identifying the story end moments after the capture.

I’ve read better
I’m really disappointed. It seems to me that the further this author gets in the series, the less we see of the relationship.I enjoy the detective work quite a bit, and I like the characters, but the big sell for me to read this series and not a different one is her and the H. Not the s*x necessarily, more the intimacy. In this story there was a teeny piece with them at the beginning, with additional dibs and dabs here and there. And what there is is rushed. He’s become more of an occasional character than a main one.And you’d think the author would let her actually show some caring and concern for him by now. He does all the work and she reaps all the rewards. It’s rather depressing, and a mystery why he keeps her around. The story itself was rather boring. Which was a surprise to me because the author threw so many murders into it. Then again, it could have been because there aren’t any D & R intimacies to break up the monotony. It could also have been because there weren’t very many interactions with others either, and those few were also rushed. It was just murder scene after office scene after murder scene. All rushed.I also didn’t care for the many victims all being decent people. I can deal with dead bad guys and maybe a good guy, but this was over the top. And the reasoning for it was horrendous.I keep changing my star rating from 1 to 2, and then back again. The only reason I was considering a 2 is because of the humanizing scene at the beginning. In actuality, I guess this review is more like a 1 ½ star.

Who's up next?
As usual, J.D. Robb, grabs the reader in the first couple pages, then keeps them involved the entire book. Indulgence in Death features two wealthy old money men who feel perfectly justified in killing people for sports a sort of game. They keep score and take turns using old fashioned, or exotic weapons to make each kill more interesting. Their targets are really not important people in their eyes, just some low level hired help that they perceive as people that has ,in some way slighted them or a family member. People they feel have no right or reason to continue living. They leave very little trace evidence behind fo Lieutenant Eve Dallas to follow and put together her trap. Oh she knows who is doing the elaborate kills, but proving it to the satisfaction of the PA,and judge is a different matter. Until she sets an elaborate trap to catch them in the act together, coming after her. Well written, thought provoking as always. A must read if you enjoy J.D. Robb's futuristic cop stories.

Killers that feel entitled to take lives
I really enjoyed this book. It begins with Eve and Roarke celebrating their anniversary in Ireland. I will be vague so as not to spoil any of the story. Eve's present for Roarke is lovely. Also while in Ireland, Sean Brody discovers a young woman that has been murdered. Sean seems to share Eve duty of standing for the dead. With careful boundaries, Eve allows him to do that. She also does a bit of mentoring of Officer Leary. Back in New York, Eve has other murders to solve. I really got hooked on the story when she was able to get into the mindset of the killers. I am disappointed it did not end with a barbecue though.

In Death book 31
The beginning of this book sees Eve and Roarke take some well deserved vacation time to travel to Ireland to visit Roarke's family. I'm really glad we're getting to know his family a little better now and its always fun to see how out of her element Eve is when she's surrounded by people who care about her. I really loved the surprise she'd arranged for Roarke too, sometimes she can be more thoughtful than you'd expect.Of course things quickly get back to normal for them when they return to New York and Eve gets caught up in the hunt for a serial killer. This is a killer unlike any she's faced before, one who seems to take great joy in choosing their victims and hunting them for sport. Eve has a pretty good idea who her killer is but when it comes to taking on someone rich and powerful you need to have your evidence lined up just right so they can't wriggle out of the charges. Of course there's nobody better than Eve to make sure a killer is brought to justice, she just needs to do it fast before any more innocent victims lose their lives.I'm still totally hooked on this series, I can't quite believe that 31 books in and I'm still loving it THIS much but to all those people who have tried to get me to read it for YEARS you were right, it IS the best! The characters, the mysteries, the humour, the romance, the death and destruction, all of it comes together in an irresistible combination that is totally addictive and the more books I read the more I love this world. J.D. Robb is a fantastic writer & I'm glad she's such a prolific one too!

Another second read, but no less exciting good ending the baddies didn't get away..
Loved the whole story, very true to series and well worth reading, looking forward to next episode. These characters really come alive in these stories. Amazed they haven't been snapped up for tv or another media presentation.

Undulgence in Death
Oh my what a book, I knew I was getting this in my xmas stocking and couldn't wait.but it was worth the wait. I really enjoyed this book and the although all the characters involved with the In Death series are there, its mostly Eve and of course the gorgeous Roarke. Couldnt put this book down, but at the same time needed to know how it would end. Hope I dont have to wait too long for the next.Recommend this book for J.D Robb (Nora Roberts) readers.

... books are my 'go to' when I want an easy entertaining read
The 'In Death' books are my 'go to' when I want an easy entertaining read. I love the characters, & have enjoyed following the ongoing story of Eve Dallas. Didn't feel however that Indulgence is one of the best, there is not enough action. After an interesting opening in Ireland, the dialogue, & procedural descriptions took over, & get the feeling JD is running out of ideas. Hoping the next one will be up to usual standard!

Brilliant
She's done it again, where does she think these stories up,it was nice that we saw Roark family more but I must admit I did miss summerset this time. I always love the last chapter where she grills her baddies or taunts them so they have to tell all.Another great book I look forward to the next oneChristine.
