Really needs to be given ten stars.
This ha got to be the best story I have ever read. So perfectly executed and flowed so beautifully. I would recommend it to anyone that loves history and dogs. Never had heard of this story before, except about the railway being built by the POWs. Great history story of true spirit. Fantastic job Mr. Lewis. Thank you and God Bless for telling it.

Author did a ton of research
I found it very interesting and a nice twist on WWII with Japan from a British prospective. A lot of detail. Judy’s story added to the details around the war and Japanese POW camps kept it more interesting. Makes me not want to buy a Japanese car ever again.

Great read; couldn't put it down
This author does an excellent job intertwining Judy's life story with the horrific historical events of her journey and the many that experienced it with her. Details of battles, the ships, artillery, geographics, etc. were informative enough to educate, creating the settings and climate of the atrocities of war without operating manual style minutia that can turn many readers off. Especially those of us interested in a book that is supposed to be about a dog (there are plenty of other books detailing how boats, guns and planes operate). Nor is there any of the modern day politically correct guilt ridden falseness about the Allies in WWII or bashing of the Allied Forces. Judy: The Unforgettable Story of the Dog Who Went to War and Became a True Hero is perfect for both dog lovers and appreciators of unbiased, accurately presented history.

I very much enjoyed this book
I very much enjoyed this book. An animal lover I seldom read books about animals fearing that there will be something ghastly that will happen to them which I will find too upsetting. Not so with this book. It is a remarkable story about a remarkable dog and it all ends happily, well as happily as it could bearing in mind that dogs do not live as long as we do. It is well written and not maudlin. That men should survive as prisoners of the Japanese was extraordinary enough but that a dog, the only dog to be registered officially as a prisoner of war complete with number, is more extraordinary still, she could so easily have been shot. To overcome as many life threatening situations as she did, from being a rescue pup to quite literally 'serving' in the Royal Navy in the Second World War and, en route, save so many lives is a story of survival and loyalty to match very few.

Heartwarming and sad. Courage loyalty and outstanding bravery amidst so much sadness and cruelty. Friendship in the face of adversity. Judy helped keep everyone together when they were at their lowest ebb. Amazing story.
