Axecellent
This axe is well balanced in weight, easy to use and very sharp. I had no problems cutting down five pine trees in the garden. This is an excellent tool and would recommend it to anyone to buy.

Axe review
good price, but was disappointed to find it had no edge to the axe blade cupped it in my palm and didn't feel sharp at all. I brought this for chopping wood when I go camping so had to spend time sharpening the blade.

Nah... Just... Just no
This axe is fine for someone with a passing interest in attacking timber with an axe, split a few logs a month, a year, and you'll be fine but use it more than once every few months and you'll hit some snags:- The hickory handle is too thick; not 'just sand it'thick, studidly thick, you'd need a belt sander to get it to where it should be. (I will concede that this is personal preference)- The axe head is poorly fitted to the shaft, at work we have Wetterlings, Gransfors and Bahco axes, all on their original handles after years of my boss's abuse; this has wobble on arrival and has some form of glue/epoxy at the top of the head where you should see a wedge as well as glue around the neck/base of the head. Does not inspire confidence with heavy use.Now this is a cheap axe so some concessions must be made but I would advise looking at Bahco or Hultafors range for a cheaper axe.NB The axe head is fine, the steel seems decent enough (it really is hard to make a poor axe head), so it may be worth taking the head off (saw the lower shaft off, burn the remaining wood out of the head - ensure you don't put it in too hotter a fire to prevent ruining the temper/heat treatment of the steel) and rehandling it with a decent handle and wedge or get it proffesionally done, as it may be cheaper than buying a top of the range axe. Just a thought. If you read this far, good effort.

Silverline Felling axe
Absolute rubbish!! This axe was a good cutter and the hickory shaft did seem to absorb some of the impact blows but, I suspect it is an occasional use axe because after about 30 to 40 hours use spread over a couple of months, the shaft broke at the head. A huge tree fell down in my garden and I have to chop it up in small sections due to the weight. A 2000w electric chain saw made no impression on it and I don't want to use - or buy - a powerful petrol chain saw but the axe was taking care of it - albeit a couple of hours for a 500mm diameter trunk. I guess it can't take sustained use. But if not, can any of the axes Amazon sells?Update: Like a muppet, I bought another one. After using it for approximately 1.5 hours a day for 10 days in a row, the second axe has gone the same way. This axe is absolutely useless for anything but light and very occasional work. Otherwise it is totally unfit for purpose.

Great item for a great price
Its a good quality axe for a log burner owner. It does what it should and is far better than those cheap (Imported) fibre glass versions that are being sold every where!!! Don't forget with Silverline you get a lifetime warranty!!!
