There’s little about installing deeper (10”) floating shelves that’s easy, but this made it all possible. The guide kept things straight for the full 8 inches. Some complain that the drill bit didn’t hold up for them. The trick is, use a strong enough drill, and continually oil the bit and regularly remove the drilled wood so as not to let the drill bog down or freeze up. Costs more than the Home Depot version, but guides for centering and the overall quality of the metal make it all worth it.

Did just what it was designed for. Kept the drill bit straight 8 1/2 inches deep.

This is perfect for my needs. Made a cypress mantel attached to a beam 12 in thick and use this jig for the mounting bracket. All hardware and direction are easy to understand too. I screwed the jig where needed and the drilled. Very easy and use oil for the bit.

Self centering design makes drilling holes for floating shelves much easier. Easy to assemble and use, but the supplied drill bit wasn't as aggressive as it should be. I used some 1 1/2 thick white pine boards for my floating shelf project. The first 1-2 inches of cutting were fine, but was a real struggle to get the entire depth after that. Just finished mounting my live edge spalted maple floating shelves. These are big kitchen shelves and are each 50" wide and 2" thick. The product turned out great, but I must say that the reviews critical of this product have merit. The guide itself is pretty good, especially if you use better oil (I used WD40) to keep it cool.The bit however was hot trash. It wobbled when rolled and was dull. Fortunately, I had read the other reviews and purchased the WoodOwl 09705 Tri-Cut 1/2-Inch by 7-1/2-Inch Ultra Smooth Auger Bit. This got me most of the way when paired with a drill press attachment for my drill. I wanted to get my holes really straight, so I opted to use the longer but this came with too finish to final depth so I could rest the press base on the guide. When I switched hits, it was immediately clear how bad the longer bit was. I'm sure it would have broken had I only used it. I'll write a separate review for the brackets themselves.Overall, I think you'd be better off getting a dowel jig instead and two quality bits then testing your luck here.

This product was a bit on the pricy side but really helped the precision placement of the holes for the floating shelf mounts. Couldn't be happier.

I bought this tool plus the matching heavy duty hanging shelf brackets in order to hang some heavy shells in my kitchen. Because of the way, the two by fours were behind the wall I was only able to put three brackets per shelf. And as you can see in the picture, the shelves that I hung up or very heavy wood. one big concern that I had was that the shelves with sag once they put them up so when I installed the brackets, I install them at a 1° slant so the weight of the shelves would make them level once they were actually hung. I am very pleased with the product. The drill bit was extremely sharp and worked really well. The Brackets are very sturdy.

Pretty simple and accurate. Well designed.

Another must have is a drill press. Granted, I did use 1.5” thickness boards while the instructions clearly ask for 1.7” of thickness. However, I think had I had a drill press (and clamping jig to keep my shelves perpendicular), 1.5” would have been fine.

Cumple con la función para lo que fué hecho, puse unas repisas flotantes y fué facilísimo hacer las perforaciones, algunos comentarios dicen que la broca no tiene suficiente filo, pero si se usa como dice en las instrucciones funciona de maravilla, lo recomiendo ampliamente!!

Easy to use worked well

The drill guide is perfect. The drill itself not so much, burned out after the second hole drilling into White Oak. Since I suck at sharpening drills, I went out and bought a good one. That actually lasts.
