Mastech MS6514
I bought this Mastech MS6514 digital thermometer to monitor coffee roasting in a FreshRoast SR540 coffee roaster. I loaded Artisan software on my early 2011 MacBook Pro computer and after setting up the thermometer everything connected flawlessly without needing any additional drivers. A couple of temperature checks with other digital thermometers that I have all correlated within a few tenths of a degree. The only reason for downgrading to four stars is because I have not yet figured out how to download logged data into other applications, and the owners manual is generously described as brief. The answers to most questions though can be found on YouTube

Very versatile and easy to use equipment.
I use this equipment to verify the temperature of coffee roasting, with the help of the artisam V2.8.4 software. It connects and configures easily on Windows PCs. Drivers and COM ports must be configured, nothing more.

Outdated device.
Supposed to connect via USB but the drivers/software doesn't work with any current OS.

I am returning this item - does not appear a way to download stored memory data
After a little fooling around to get the driver working I am able to download (USB) only real-time data. The memory function works and stores data at the user set interval however when connected to the computer there doesn't appear anyway to download the stored data. Worse there doesn't appear any way to control the interval of real-time data. It writes to the computer file at 1 second intervals. If you don't need to download memory or record real-time at longer sample rate I guess it is pretty neat.

Works great with Artisan for coffee roasting
Works great via USB to my laptop to log temperature for coffee roasting using Artisan software. Manual is in english and the device is easy to use. About half the price of the Amprobe TMD-56. It's a bit on the large size, and a backlight would be nice, but otherwise no complaints.

Working great.
I am using this product on my coffee roasting to profile my roasts as I can still see the temp of the probe. This has met all my expectations for this purpose.

Temp readings are way too high
I'm using this product to log the temps of a coffee roasting process. The temp readings are way high. The Mastech MS6514 device defaults to type N probes in settings. I'm guessing the probes that shipped in the box are not type N thermocouples. The documentation doesn't specify the probe types. Which type actually ship with the box?
