The Build: How the Master Design Custom Motorcycles

I'm thinking I'll get the hard copy
A well written book - it flows well, and seems to have actually been proof read - it was easy to read. As it is a book on design theory, it does not disappoint with pictures. The pictures actually showed up prey well on my tiny tablet. It isn't just a "picture book" though. I have a potential project that I've been wanting to start, without knowing how to achieve the look I want, or why a certain style might look good. This book has pointed out the key areas and lines that I'll need to focus on, and given me lots of options never considered.Money well spent, but in this age of electronic everything, I'm wanting more than just a Kindle version. I need a hard copy.

Covers all the most important factors except cost
This is a great book that covers all but one of the most important factors involved in designing and building a custom motorcycle. The missing factor is realistic cost. Most newcomers don't have any idea how costly it is to build a custom bike, even if you have one or multiple of the specific skills involved. It would have been helpful to warn readers that the cost of any one-of vehicle is far, far higher than that of a "production" vehicle. Other than that criticism, I loved this book. It gives a reader a usable "plan" and guide, and highlights the most important aspects.

Damaged dust jacket upon arrival
I think the book itself is great- interesting content, beautiful photos, etc. I bought this as an anniversary gift for my husband who is currently working on a bike. I was bummed that this brand new book is damaged. The jacked is ripped/dented...I need the book for tomorrow so can’t return.

Great book that inspires great possibilities
This was an inspirational as well as beautifully produced book that gives permission as well as encouragement to create, learn and then create again. It assumes and rightfully so that the aspiring builder has the basic skills to fabricate and the willingness to learn those unique skills that are part of the journey. If you are looking for a cookbook or a "bobber in a box", this is not the book for you. However, if you are pondering the question "I wonder if I could", the honesty of the early beginnings and mistakes of these talented builders may be all you need to take that first cut. It has for me and my buddy.

Head & shoulders above the others
Very readable, will give sound advice on where to start and the thought processes required. It's not a manual to build a specific bike (if you have a very specific build in mind, you should probably just go and buy that bike!), but it will help you to order your thoughts and get your priorities straight. Very inspiring!

Pretty Pictures
Very general and vague guidance. This is mostly a general guide about design, design inspiration, and of how to find it. Helpful tips like, “You may want to take a welding class...” It is helpful and a worthwhile read. Provides a handful of websites to find more inspiration and parts.

Great read and great pictures!
I really enjoyed The Build. Gave me a lot of ideas without giving me ideas. If that makes sense. It will when you read it. I highly recommend it. It is geared more toward the cafe style bikes which is fine for me.

What an amazing story!
I am going to perform some cosmetic surgery on my perfectly fine 2015 Triumph Street Triple. I want a cafe racer, but love this bike. So, I will transform it into one. No fab skills at all. No shop (I live in an RV on the Texas coast). But I am inspired to take the plunge. I know that even though my changes are purely cosmetic, there will be a some frustration. I will go back and read this book again...and get over myself. Thank you for the push. Anyone thinking about a project like this should read this book first. Amazing.

Very good book for newcomers in the field of building motorcycles.
Although the book is a bit general, it introduces you to some fundamentals which play a big part in the motorcycle building process. It helped me to see my project from a different angle and open my eyes to some issues I never considered before. I recommend this book to everyone who deals with motorcycle customization.
