Poorly designed for use on deep carpet; but GREAT for modification
This Kantek stand is basically an "X" configuration, with no provision for tightening or locking the pivot where the two arms of the "X" cross. Your computer goes on easily, and falls off with equal ease.I suspect that most of the five star reviews come from people with wood floors or tile over concrete slab. The stand might actually hold its adjustment while being moved on a hard surface. The wheel locks would also be a plus. It's a different story on deep carpet. The stand cannot be moved at all without the arms of the "X" opening up and dropping the computer. The computer and stand must be picked up off the carpet as a unit, moved in the air, and then put down in the new location. The castors have no useful function on carpet except to elevate the computer off of the floor.Another problem with this stand, and with its competitors, is that you can't open the side panel without removing the computer from the stand.I've researched the idea of attaching castors directly to the bottom of the computer case, but others have found that the castors end up being too close to the center line, making the computer unstable.Update 9/17/2013:Finally, after three years of owning the Kantek, I've got it working for me. I bought four one-quarter inch by 20 hex head bolts (one inch long will do), plus eight flat metal washers, four rubber washers, and four hex nuts with nylon inserts.Drill 5/16 inch holes in suitable places on the underside of the Kantek's arms. Then mark the bottom of the computer case and drill the corresponding holes, using the hose of a vacuum to catch all of the metal chips before they can go anywhere. The arms of the Kantek are then bolted in place using one bolt and metal washer from inside the case, with one rubber washer, metal washer, and hex nut in the recesses on the undersides of the Kantek's arms.Generally, you want the bolts placed as far out to the ends of the Kantek's arms as possible. The bolt that will be closest to the motherboard is the exception. On this arm, keep the bolt as close to the center of the Kantek as possible. Otherwise, the head of the bolt may interfere with removing and replacing the motherboard.I also hack sawed off the uprights for the two arms on the side where the case opens. They are no longer needed. The cuts are hidden by rotating the contact pads so that the cuts are under the case. The advantage of modifying the Kantek (as opposed to mounting castors directly on the case) is that the castors are positioned to the very side edges of the case, if not slightly beyond the edges. The case now rolls on deep carpet without issue, and I can open the case without having to remove the computer from the stand.I give the Kantek six stars for serving as an excellent platform for case modification, but still only two stars when used as intended by the seller. Please click the "yes" button if this review was helpful to you.

Looks Good and Very Functional...with One Flaw.
I bough this to put my HP desktop computer next to my big TV so I can have internet access in the family room...and for that purpose, it works perfectly. It looks very cool next to my TV stand (also black) and keeps the unit off the floor away from the cat hair from my 3 little feline thugs.BUT....even on hardwood floors, if you move this thing 1 inch in any direction, it spreads open and the computer case tilts unevenly. I've tried to tighten the phillips head screw on the bottom to firm it up and that does no good at all. I've read how some folks have wrapped a bungee cord around the legs (it's a scissor joint, so they firm up as you push the legs into the case) to keep the feet from spreading apart and I could now see how that would work now that I own it. But for me, it's not as big an issue as it mostly sits idle and I only move it once a week to vacuum the room. Please keep in mind, if you're buying this as a solution to frequently move your computer around, do not buy it. But if you want to get your computer off the floor and hardly move it around, this will work just fine. I paid just under $16.00 for this stand (free shipping) and for that kind of money, it's a great buy.

Keeps the Dust Out!
I purchased this computer stand to keep my Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case lifted off my bedroom floor, in order to reduce the amount of dust being sucked into the case. On this point, the stand is a real winner -- I have noticed a dramatic reduction in the amount of dust on the fans and inside the case itself. This means fewer cleanings and extended life for my computer components. This Kantek stand is sturdy and well-constructed. The black color looks great with my case (something that was a little difficult to tell from the stock photos, but I'm glad it worked out). I don't move the stand around much, but I noticed the wheels do lock, which is a really nice feature. Even if you never plan on wheeling your computer around, this stand is still a good buy, given the sturdy construction and appealing design. The only reason this product did not receive five stars is that I would have liked to see more "grip" provided for actually holding the case in the stand itself. There are no rubber grips or anything on top of the plastic parts where the case rests. While this has not been a problem for me, the case does slide a bit if accidentally bumped. I do not use the stand to wheel the computer around, but if I did, I imagine that it might be difficult to keep the case aligned and balanced properly on the stand itself. Maybe a tie-down strap running around the case and the bottom of the stand would help.Overall, this is a great stand and I am very happy with my purchase.

Disappointing quality, poor design
Non-reinforced floor and sides are assembled using a pair of bolts. Problem is, in no way is this setup sufficient to prevent the CPU tower from wobbling back and forth under light pressure, and the plastic used is not strong enough to resist tightening things properly and mitigate this, letting out ominous, loud cracking sounds as you get even remotely close to tight.Spend the extra bucks and buy a metal stand. This is usable on a static PC, but I don't expect it to last long, and I certainly would not trust it to move a CPU tower regularly. In some ways, "unreliable" is for me much worse than "bad" or even defective.

Does the job
It a little flimsy when there are heavier weights such as a small battery backup. It would be nice if there was some sort of rubber to prevent lighter machines from sliding off from the front or back. That being said, over all the mobile stand works as advertised.
