This was my first ice axe, and Im totally pleased with it. It's very light but also very sturdy. Feels well built. Spike cap on the leash was nice. No worries of falling and sticking myself. My hiking partner has a Petzl and actually kept commenting on how much he liked my Grivel. Worth every penny.

It weighs a pound, is not overly expensive and does the job well.

Took this to Mt Hood in Oregon and it worked great paired with an ice tool. Very lightweight, but also very trusty. Used this for self arrest quite a few times and it always stopped me from sliding off the mountain! Tall enough for me to use almost as a trekking pole in some areas, and at a great price, you can't beat it!

I added some grip tape for extra measures.

Purchased a pair of these for daughter and I to scale mile long steep snow filled couloir. The snow was 1-3’ deep so the classic long length of these axes made the difference securing us in mushy to firm snow. Their very light too.

I bought this axe to climb Mt Shasta (CA) and it was perfect! I put it through a lot too, including using it as a break while glissading down steep hills. Great ice axe!

I took this ice axe on a hike roughly 15 miles one way through a glacier. I started the hike in heavily forested areas which allowed me to scale up steep terrain gripping to branches and dig into the dirt to scale up and also worked as an anchor point in rock climbing of a rock face and also helped treverse a glacier (it’s intended purpose) I would not have been able to complete what I did without this axe and certainly would have gotten hurt if I tried without it.
