and I'm not always comfortable with his definitions of "subculture
Required for a class I'm taking in college. I'm not always sure this guy gives enough credit to people who approach things differently than he does, and I'm not always comfortable with his definitions of "subculture," but it's well written and reasonably readable.

Amazing!
Ross really understands subcultures and makes it easy for me to get into to mind set of people other than the people I know.

A Concise, yet complete, work on the topic of subcultures
In Subcultures: The Basics, Professor Ross Haenfler provides a handy guide to various subcultures around the world. The book tends to be scholarly with lots of references to other works which might be problematic for some, but at the same time gives a seriousness that would be lacking in a more informal book. The topics include, " How do subcultures emerge," "How do subcultures resist mainstream society," "Who participates in subcultures," "How does society react to subcultures," "What happens to subculturalists as they 'grow up'," and several more. If you any any interest in this topic you will learn a lot from this book.
