No problems with this, so far.
I received mine yesterday, and I have had none of the problems that others have complained about. They must have changed either the design or the actual cable connector, itself. It worked, staying connect without any problem at all. As far as the software complaints go, do you REALLY expect them to include a $100 program with a $100 drive? They, like many others, are probably giving away free, not fully functional programs because they might get a kickback if you buy the full program. There are plenty of free programs that will play Blu Rays. You just have to search for them.

Lightweight, portable and works but requires modern Intel CPU and rubbish Cyberlink software
The drive itself is plastic, lightweight and easy to bring around. It comes with a USB 3 cable, but the part of the cable that connects to the drive itself isn't the greatest. The drive comes with a licensed PowerDVD disc installation, so you can use PowerDVD 14 to play your normal 1080p Blurays. I found that I had to upgrade to PowerDVD 19 (purchase a license) to play 4k UHD Blurays. That's bad on the part of the Cyberlink software.Through no fault of the drive maker themselves, UHD 4k Bluray playback won't work unless you have an Intel CPU and motherboard that supports Intel SGX. Chalk this up to Intel and the Hollywood association making it difficult for legitimate purchasers to play their UHD discs on PC.I used a laptop with an Intel i7-8750h and SGX support, and it is able to play 4k UHD Blurays properly with Cyberlink PowerDVD 19 on this Lite-On EB1 drive. Problem is Cyberlink's software sucks, they cap their capability to read discs at 60Mbps, but some 4k UHD Blurays playback at 100Mbps. In basic terms, that means PowerDVD actually hangs momentarily between certain scenes when playing back (tried this with Wonder Woman Bloodlines). You're better off ripping the disc to your computer and playing it back through free video software than using Cyberlink's rubbish. To note, I also have an AMD Ryzen 9 3950x desktop system and 4k Bluray playback is not possible through this drive due to the Intel SGX requirement.Normal Blurays will playback without issue on both Intel and AMD CPUs with this drive, regardless of SGX capability.Overall the drive itself is solid except for the slightly loose USB 3 cable port. The rest of the issues are solely on the shoulders of Intel's SGX and Cyberlink's really bad software. The drive would have gotten 5 stars if not for the slightly loose USB 3 port on the drive itself. The drive itself was manufactured in October 2018.

Garbage
Unfortunately, this is one of the only external 4k UHD disc drives available. Honestly, it is a cheap piece of garbage. The antiquated USB 3.0 Micro B that doesn't stay connected if a slight wind blows. It takes multiple tries to seat this cable into the drive. While trying to insert the cable, I feared that I would break the flimsy drive or push the female part of the drive into the drive until it wouldn't be reachable by the male portion of the cable. When the drive opens, it feels like it could break in a second. The bottom line is that it is cheaply made and not at all durable. Lastly, which is noted in the description, you have to buy an upgraded version of the software they give you for free if you want to use this drive with 4k UH Blu-Rays. Of course, I upgraded the software and returned the cheap drive. Now I have the software to play 4k UHD Blu-Rays and no device for playing them. The good news is it will work and play 4k UHD Blu-Rays if you buy the upgraded software and have a 4k UHD screen to watch it on. It may be a short-lived UHD experience because I am confident that this flimsy aluminum drive will break in a short time. The reviews on Amazon are similar to the reviews on Newegg.com.If anyone finds a drive that is worthwhile please message me on this review.I hope this helps.Regards
