GMB190-1040 OE Replacement Water Pump with Gasket

This pump seems every bit as good as the $120 volvo part except the gasket material. The Volvo part uses a silicone rubber type gasket and this one appears to be a traditional paper gasket. I followed some advice from the intent and coated the paper gasket with clear, synthetic (non-petroleum) teflon grease (SuperLube) and it has worked very well--no leaks. Here's a valuable tip. You will notice that some of the holes in the pump housing for the bolts/studs are oval and some are round. The ones that are round fit studs in the block that SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED. Their nuts should be removed. The idea is that you take out the bolts (that go into the oval holes) that are in the bloc and leave the studs. This way you put the greased gasket against a CLEAN block surface and then slide on the pump over the studs and pull up or lever up on the thing and then tighten the bolts down at the far end of the oval holes. This gives some tension for the o-ring against the head. If you take out all the studs and bolts you will make it impossible to lever up and you will have a leaky head o-ring. Also, use a little bit of automotive thread sealer on the bolts you remove because they may protrude into the water jacket. Only put the thread sealer on a few threads and NOT AT THE END of the stud. A little dab will do ya!

Only been installed for three days. But good so far.

I have not installed this one yet but previously I have used several of this same GMB pump and each one outlasted the car it was put in (e.g. 100K miles). I have seen other comments about gasket issues, so I might use an OEM gasket as insurance. As you probably know, you need to lever this up against the head as you are tightening, to properly seal the outlet.

Works on my 1994 940. Make sure to pull up into the cylinder head while you tighten up the bolts so there’s a good seal

My husband's 1988 Volvo 244 was in need of this replacement water pump. Considering the original had been warped and about to fail, clearly this was nothing to complain about.Pricing was very fair. Prime shipping always makes things easier to address for us.This was installed yesterday 6/3/2017 along with other replacements and such. The car ran smooth.... Thank you!

Nice pump fit as advertised

Does the job. There is very obviously a difference and build quality versus OEM But the functionality is absolutely 100%. For the price in for a new part versus a rebuild I am happy.
