USS Alabama (Images of America)

I bought this book as I am trying to get as much information on the USS Alabama as I can after my brother and I toured the battleship in Mobile, Alabama, in November 2014. We climbed 20 decks from the lowest engine room deck to almost the highest deck in the conning tower. The book provides a tour of the ship from its construction through its wartime service. The book is copiously illustrated and gives one the feeling of what it is like to feel the mastery of the ship's size and fighting power. While smaller than the USS North Carolina and the four Iowa class battleships (now all museum ships), the Alabama played an important role in protecting the aircraft carriers in World War 2 as well as bombardment duties while waiting for a chance to slug it out with a Japanese battlewagon which didn't happen.

Very good, but all these books are far overpriced. Just bought this one because I have a personal connection to the U.S.S. Alabama.
