Tin Badges: A Novel (Tank Rizzo)

I enjoyed the story of Tank Rizzo and his crew and look forward to reading the next 1 in the series.
I like the idea that two expolicemen Especially 1 who is in a wheelchair Would be given cold cases to solve. This story takes some unexpected turns, which adds to the mystery. I recommend this to anyone who likes fast moving police stories.

I hope there will be more books in this series.
Years ago, I read Street Boys, a WWII novel by this author, that I thoroughly enjoyed. That’s what prompted me to pick up this mystery.Ex-cop Tank Rizzo, his former partner Pearl, and a group of friends have become a go-to team for cold cases the NYPD doesn’t have time or energy to pursue. Here, they’re asked to look into the robbery and brutal rape of two prostitutes that quickly evolves into an effort to take down a drug kingpin. Complicating Tank’s life on top of that is taking in his orphaned nephew after the boy’s parents – Tank’s brother and sister-in-law – die in a car crash. This is probably the best book I’ve read in some time. It’s a darn good story with tension from the first page to last and a pace that is a steady canter with regular forays into a gallop and the occasional walk to let the reader catch his breath. There are several potential ‘Oh, my gosh’ moments where you feel things could go sideways big time. But after the first few don’t reach that ‘Uh-oh’ level (because Tank is always one step ahead of the bad guys), the rest don’t have the take-your-breath-away impact they could and should have. These are the only low points in the novel.I have the next Tank Rizzo book, Payback, on my To Read shelf. If it’s as good as this one, I’ll be looking for many more in the series.

Tin Badges
I really enjoyed this book. I read it during a rainy weekend. The way the author tells the story and develops characters reminds me of the " 87th precinct" stories. The book is worth reading, and even though there are not many surprises, it is a great read.

Could not stick with idiot hero
Mr. Carcaterra is clearly a successful and talented writer. As I started the book I was enjoying his writing style and the first contact with the hero cop and his background. Then there was a jarring note. Hero and academy classmate are paired up as rookie street cops in NYC. I bet NYPD never pairs up rookies, but okay - I kept reading. Then the big sin on my personal no-go list, the hero does stuff where you are thinking "nobody would do that!!!"Hero and partner are going to make a big drug bust. Does the chain of command know-apparently not. Do they have back up, apparently not. Are they wearing body armor/have appropriate weapons - NOT. When they find out it is an ambush and they are badly outnumbered, do they back off/call for help when they could. NOT. Instead they attack with the results you can predict. The hero fell past incompetent to complete idiot. Who wants to spend time with such a buffoon? Not me. Closed up this book 7% in and moved on.

Incredible Read?
I have enjoyed everyone of Carcaterra's novels. "Tin Badges' may be the best yet - one of the top three I've read during 2019. The story is certainly interesting, the characters and relationships not only touching but up close and personal. I felt a tear or two seep down my cheek more than once. And, it takes place in my favorite city to visit. BTW, Eisenberg's is a fantastic deli! Couldn't put the book down - read it in one sitting.

Thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced high action novel
Author Lorenzo Carcaterra creates an intriguing cast of characters, scenes that were heart-warming or sometimes heart-wrenching, and a fast developing story line that kept me turning the pages until the end.Throughout the story there are hints to a past controversy and questions begging to be answered. Revelations in the final two chapters left me wanting to read more! Really looking forward to the sequel to this book.

Retired Cop
This was a very exciting book that was hard to put down. At times it wasn’t realistic. But overall worth reading. I hope there is a sequel.
