K-11 [Blu-ray]

Amazing.

First, Overall this wasn't a bad movie, though there were some issues about the movie I had, but have been mentioned in previous reviews, so I won't mention then in great detail. I did find that I liked this a bit more than I anticipated. What struck me most was the casting... Why have women play a man wanting/acting like a man? Or a transgender/transvestite to be exact... The film would have been better served to actually hire actors who were such in real live, I bet they would have made this movie much better. I actually thought much of the female playing men, to be over acted stereotypes of the people they were suppose to play. That includes the greasy haired, Nazi, sadist prison guard, which was deplorable and so "common" but well played by D.B Sweeney. Even though I am a straight male, for some reason I was offended to see a woman playing a role meant for a transgender or gay actor. As to why this choice of casting bothered me I am not sure, other than the lack of courage of the director and writers to insist on actors who would better play those roles. This is a well acted film, and enjoyable to watch as a whole. Even the characters you disliked were well played by the cast. So I would recommend this movie, with the caveat to just keep an open mind to the movie and the story and what the message of it was. If there is one you can gleam from it. Thanks

Spoiler Alert!Liked:* Overall storyline and setting fit, would've been better with darker and more "origin" stories on some of the characters, especially leads and supporting* It's 2020 now and it seems like there's momentum for characters of certain genders and sexualities (other than heterosexual) to be played by actors who are actually of those genders/sexualities, which would give way better effect to said characters (if they were good actors, of course). That being said, Kate Del Castillo and Portia Doubleday did pretty good in their roles, and actually felt they were pretty convincing when they dropped their voices a few octaves at certain points.Disliked:* Starts off great, really dark. Almost makes you feel like you're about to experience something like the Conjuring or a psychological thriller, but then it backs away. Had the movie stayed the course, def would've given 5 stars without a doubt.* The ending fit, although I'm very disappointed that Ray didn't leave any commissary behind for Butterfly!*****

This film is different and its no surprise that the mediocre press don't get it. To make judgements they need something to compare it to and only thing they have are camp or exploitation films , so they do , only K-11 is neither of those. The cast includes 3 transgender's in the main cast and lots of gay men. Forgive any reviewer who doesn't know that, lots of people are going to see this film for whatever they want to see. The attacks on the director , Jules Stewart , simply because she is Kristens mom are unending as gay Hollywood loves a target. This is an amazing first film. James Camerons first film ,Piranha Part Two: The Spawning, earned a hefty 3.5 out of ten . Fascinating because Cameron wrote the screenplay under an alias :)It's a good little film, entertaining and fast paced. Goran Visnjic, Kate del Castillo and Portia Doubleday are all superb. There are wonderful cinematic shots and filmic poetry throughout. Ignore the pedestrian musings of people hooked on formula Hollywood films. You will have fun . Kristen Stewart appears only as a voice in this film but she was to play the role of Butterfly. The producer and director decided not to cast her as the character because of the negative press they knew they would receive for it. The role was completely rewritten for Portia. There is absolutely nothing for the producer and director to feel ashamed of because for a first feature ,it's pretty amazing.

Sometimes the ones that hide in the nowhere land are absolute winners.I had no idea how this movie would have played out. This is the story of a guy, Ray Saxx, who gets busted for a weekend gone to he11. A rockstar at Ray's OD's and Ray is locked up.The LT in charge grabs Ray at in processing to put in his ward - the transvestites. By no means does Ray belong.The story is the story of the people there and an ultimate paycheck from one of the inmates against the sadistic LT.

K-11 [Blu-ray ]Adult material and probably not suited for 14 and under but the acting was Oscar worthy! Special kudos to Kate Del Castillo who plays inmate "Mousey" and Portia Doubleday who plays another inmate called "Butterfly". Also Goran Visinjic was excellent as the clueless record producer who ends up in cell block K-11 for murder of his rockstar client. (An L.A. cell block for gays and transsexuals, or for anyone who wouldn't survive in the mainstay prison.) Blasted on heroin...he stumbles around in a daze until it wears off, I guess, then he starts thinkin'.This movie is real and there is sexual violence and drugs...dangerously close to soft-porn and could be considered voyeuristic and and exploitation of the prison population, but for the incredible acting that warms your heart to these basically lost characters; allowing you to walk in their shoes.One of the successes of the new trend in reality movies, music and art.

If you like unconventional movies where wishes for paybacks come true, you might like this one. It had just the right amount of edge, well developed and well acted. Just edgy enough to make you feel it. I had to smile at the end. Really portrayed a place where only the strong survive and some of the most unlikely characters show strength one would never expect.

I had no idea what the movie was all about just looked interesting and omg am I glad I watched it. Definitely entertaining through out the entirety of the Movie. Never a dull moment. If you're into messed up stuff I'd highly recommend to watch this. Some great acting in this.
