Small Circle Jujitsu: History & Practice

Concepts, clarity, and history
Any martial arts text is a challenge to read or write; no one is ever 100% happy because the subject does not lend itself to written description. With that warning aside, what this book does it does very well. First it is a tribute to the late Wally Jay and the art which is his legacy through they words of some of his senior students, and some later followers. In this it is an unqualified success. Secondly and as important, the book dives deep into the theory behind Small Circle Jujitsu. Many martial artists of all backgrounds trained with Wally Jay over decades; most took away some facet of his teaching to enhance their own practice. The author does a tremendous job of exploring the theoretical underpinnings of the Jay family system which make it a complete and formidable stand alone art. Highly Recommended.

Mostly esoteric nonsense.
A lot of esoteric pressure point nonsense with some basic physics. If you are a history buff may have some usefulness but practically there's very little "practice" other than a few basic throws and wing chun type techniques.

The most complete martial arts book I've ever read - part history, part manual, and all authentic
Nowhere else will you find so many grandmasters, masters and gurus from different schools gathered together to celebrate a martial art, its creator Professor Wally Jay and the legacy that lives on in his son, Professor Leon. Every turn of the page brings one master after another passing on inside details on Small Circle techniques, advice on training, the science behind the art and the principles that guide it. Not least, Professor Leon, who is a walking, talking lexicon of Small Circle Jujitsu. It's like having your own sensei at your shoulder 24/7. Part family history, part training guide, this book shows you not just how to make techniques work, but why they work too - and then gives you the background on how they evolved. The sheer depth of knowledge is amazing - from sinew-stretching locks to the medical science behind pressure point techniques. Indispensable reading for everyone from beginners to masters. Close your eyes, open any page at random and you'll find something to complete what you thought you already knew. A great book and a great companion work to the first 'Small-Circle Jujitsu' book by Professor Wally. This really is a family book - from the family who invented Small Circle, to the the family of martial artists who follow it all around the world.

Not to be missed
This book is a combination of the fascinating history and technical detail that makes up the art of Small Circle Jujitsu. Its contributors are world class martial artists who have generously shared their invaluable knowledge. The science behind Small Circle techniques has been researched over many years and the explanations given in this book make for an invaluable read for all those with an interest in the martial arts; explaining not just what happens to a human body during a technique but WHY it happens. The development of Small Circle Jujitsu is constantly ongoing and this book justifies the reasoning behind every movement and combination of techniques. It is impossible to miss the respect and love that was, and still is, felt for Professor Wally Jay and this book shows that his legacy lives on in the dedication of his son, Professor Leon Jay, and his many friends in the martial arts world as they continue to teach this exceptional martial arts system. This book is a must for martial artists of any level and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Fantastic book exploring the foundation, principles and techniques of Small Circle Jujitsu
The most in depth book on Small Circle Jujitsu yet. A must have for martial art practitioners but also as a fantastic resource to use along side Professor Wally Jay's Small circle Jujitsu Books. Its the first time that a book has been able to convey and capture what Small Circle jujitsu is today with the many instructors that teach the system , how they have put their own interpretation to the art but also how his son Leon Jay has taken the style further. The book explores the biography of Wally Jay more than any book previously and explains the development of Small Circle Jujitsu from its conception to the implementation of the current instructors today. It describes Professor Wally Jay's influence on Bruce Lee as well as Dan Inosanto. Giving the reader an even deeper appreciation of what a pioneer Professor Wally jay was and Small Circle Jujitsu continues to be.
