Unexpected Joy of Being Sober Journal

The perfect addition to my quit lit library
I am a huge fan of Catherine Gray's first book "The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober". I've been on the path to becoming AF for a couple years, haven't 100% got there, but I'm about 90% there. I've read her book 4 times because I love everything about it. I finally got this journal and am so happy I did!The journal is a perfect mix of beautiful pics with inspiring captions, stories, advice and journal prompts. There are a lot of engaging components. Some are a little more fun (like conversation with an alien) and some have us dig a little deeper to analyze things. I've been working through this slowly because I love it so much and could probably do it all in a couple days. I want to really be intentional and absorb it all.I've had a few friends who have talked about either going AF or taking a break. I'm going to make it a priority make them a fun care package when this comes up with these two books, yummy snacks and fun AF drinks I've discovered. I might either disassemble this journal when I'm done and use the pics for my planner, bathroom mirror, make bookmarks and such or just buy a second copy for that reason.

Quit Lit at its finest
I love this book. I bought it used from Powell's Books (if you're unfamiliar, check them out - they are wonderful) when the text was only available in Europe. It spoke to me more than, and gave me more usable tools than any other "quit lit" I've read. And I've read quite a bit. I love her vulnerability and attitude, throughout. It's not a chore to read; it's a pleasure. It makes you honestly want to not drink. Not by scare tactics, but just to improve your life. To be sure, you've got to put in the work, otherwise, but this book will inspire you to do so. If you're reading this, you probably have, or know someone with a substance abuse problem; I wish you all of the love and support you deserve. And you are so deserving. <3Anyway, I've just bought the Kindle edition, as well. So I can pass on my paper copy to friends, and make digital notes and highlights in my re-read.

Good Reminder
The author makes you think about what it was like in a world where moderation is not the norm. Comparisons of life sober and life intoxicated. Which life do you deserve? How are you gonna defend it? Truth it's your choice. Sober feels so much more fresh and less painful in the end.

Makes you think
Great book and workbook to really ponder why you drink and what good (bad) comes out of it. Highly recommended

Funny and helpful
Easy read that took me no time. There were a lot of helpful tips and pics. Author is comical, too. It was fun to read a book written in another type of English, if that makes sense. Had to look up what a teetotaler is. Cheers and enjoy!

A different look at using alcohol, great book
This definitely has an English cultural bent but is relevant to anyone. A different way to think about it, especially from a health stand point. Great book (friends in England read & were raving about it, they quit after reading it) It has significantly changed my consumption, think it through from a health stand point now if I drink

Love This!
I read her book first (the best recovery book ever) & this is a wonderful follow-up that re-emphasizes the joy of sobriety & the work that goes into it.

Great helping book
No judgment, only facts! Help to understand there are no benefits from alcool. Just misery. Just pain. Just make your brain dysfunctionnal.

Brilliant journal - a really fun yet thoughtful way to work through sobriety!
I read Catherine Gray's book 'The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober' last year and absolutely loved it. Honest, funny, moving and wise, I can't praise it highly enough. I have had long periods of not drinking before but I am currently training for a half marathon and so have decided to 'go sober' from 1st January. I bought this journal as I was feeling a bit 'meh' about the whole thing, and I am absolutely loving it. It's like having a lovely supportive encouraging friend that you can dip into whenever you need to, and there are so many great tips, plus a lot of really good food for thought. Whether you want to have a break from drinking for a while, or become teetotal, this is a wonderful journal that I would highly recommend.

A must read anytime of year not just New Year's Eve Eve
Bought this journal after reading The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober. I was so inspired by Catherine Gray's honest account of her drinking past and newfound joy as in the title of her sober life that I want to go on the journey myself and this journal is just the ticket to help me get started. It has helped me think about my drinking habits, do they make me happy, am I a better person when drinking, no and no?? It is beautifully put together, the pics to share are stunning and thought provoking, expect a few reposts on Insta. Thankyou Catherine for sharing your journey and helping others discover The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober.
