Works as intended.
I purchased this to flatten out a 3000/8000 grit stone I use for sharpening dog grooming blades (the ever so slight concave dip that occurs when using a stone will make a sharpened blade no longer cut). It definitely worked as the stone I was using that would no longer work once again made my blades cut like new. One thing to bear in mind is this stone wears down as well. It slowly developed a channel where I rubbed the other whetstone against it, creating a lip of sorts on the left and right. As a result, a 3rd stone (metal with diamond grit) was needed to rub on the flattening stone across the width of it to flatten it back out as well.TL;DR It works but it wears down as well. Prepare to have a third stone made of metal to reflatten your flattening stone

Great value and useful tool!
This stone flattened all my sharpening stones perfectly! I wish I knew about it years ago. It left no residue on even my finest straight razor hones. Great value and a useful tool to make sharpening cutting tools, knives, etc easier. I use it regularly to keep my stones flat so my cutting edges are straight.

Does its job and looks like it will last!
Performs as expected. Resurfaced my well worn 3 2-sided wetstones and the flattening stone still looks like new. Don’t anticipate wearing it down anytime soon.

Much easier than a nagura stone.
This is about as easy as it gets.I've been slowly learning how to whetstone sharpen over the last couple of years and I made my share of mistakes. But if I could go back and tell myself one thing it would be get this stone. In the hours of sharpening tutorials I watched to begin with not one mentioned flattening stones. Who knew whetstones needed to be stoned themselves? Well, not me for the first year. When I did finally learn I got myself a small white nagura stone. I'm not enough of an expert to pretend I know why some people buy or prefer nagura stones. You'll have to do your own research there. All I know is the nagura stone was a fraction of the size of my whetstone and I felt like I was wearing through it faster than it was planning the whetstone. I felt like within 4-5 uses it would look like a worn pink eraser. Two very important tips;Soak both stones in warm water for a few minutes before using.Take a pencil and draw a grid on your whetstone with horizontal and vertical lines. When you can't see any more lines your stone is flat.Takes no more than 3 minutes of grinding and your sharpening stone will be right back to a nice evenly flat surface which is crucial to getting a good edge.

This whetstone is not soft, but hard and does a great job!
Wow! I so needed this as my old one had almost completely worn out. This one is nice and sturdy and does a wonderful job on kitchen knives and my scissors. Double sided with coarse and fine grindings. The presentation of this stone is very nice. The box came wrapped neatly. The interior box is wrapped in gold and a brown bow. Then when you open the box, the stone is wrapped in styrofoam and tissue paper. Very nice presentation.
