Enormous fun
When the power of graphic novels was drawn to my attention on Twitter, I had no idea where to start. Fortunately for me, there were several readers who were very happy to point me in the right direction and this title was one that was highly recommended. Until now, this has been one of the few titles I’ve wanted that my local indie hasn’t been able to order in for me but with publisher Scholastic now releasing this in the UK, it is one that is sure to win a whole new audience of eager readers because it is fabulous.Starting at the beginning of the academic year we join excited new-to-the-school teacher Mr Wolf as he meets his new class and gets to know them. Including a broad range of true-to-life characters, the children in Mr Wolf’s class will be easily recognisable to both adult and child readers, who will quickly grow to love both class and teacher.Reflecting both the routines and the unexpected things that typically crop up during the school day, the story shows Mr Wolf and his young charges tackling making friends, following rules, the excitement of show-and-tell and a classmate going missing, with an enormous helping of humour. The comfortable familiarity of much of what happens, in addition to the writer’s glorious full-colour illustrations, makes this a read to which children will return over and over again – something that as adults we know is frequently important in growing readers who read for pleasure. Having read this twice myself, I can state that I loved it both times and there was plenty to spot hidden in the artwork that was missed first time round.Aimed at lower KS2, this is a title that will be equally adored in Years 5 and 6 and also into KS3. With a UK publication date for Book 2, Mystery Club, yet to be announced I can hand-on-heart say that that will also be a huge hit with young readers and their adults who fall in love with this wonderful series after enjoying this.

Real fun
This a great graphic novel about the first day of school. You meet a brilliant bunch of kids and their brand new teacher. This made me chortle and the teacher in me saw a lot of my teaching life in this. I think I’ll be hunting down the rest of the series now!

Good series of kids books
I picked up a Mr Wolf book at Walmart last year at Christmas as it seemed the kind of thing my then 9 year old son would like - I'm constantly trying to encourage reading of any sort as he's more interested in things with screens. When he sat down and started to read this after all the Christmas excitement was done, he kept on going and read the whole thing cover to cover in one sitting pretty much - he loved it!I checked and was delighted to find there were 3 more books in the series - so I picked those up for him as well. He's read them all, cover to cover numerous times and has in fact kept going back to them as well which is a pretty good recommendation in my eyes, especially with a kid who struggles with reading and books in general.Highly recommended, we now can't wait for book #5 to come out!

Highest recommendation
These books are magic for young readers. We ordered these off a recommendation and both My kids (age 5 and 7) have devoured them. They have read them over and over. We have given them as a gift to struggling readers and they were a hit. We have given them as a gift to voracious readers and they were a hit.In my eyes - this series is some of the best out there. Beautiful illustrations, stories that feel real and plots that my kids identify with. We’ve owned these books for several months now and I give them the highest recommendation possible.
