Great if you aren't wearing the extra insert
I have been wearing nothing but Altra for several years now and love them. Anything with arch support, heel, narrower toe box bugs the crap out me. As expected, these shoes are great. The reason I have them four stars is because, as other reviews have mentioned, the strap/line across the toe box can snag your toe... Even if you have perfectly manicured toes. For me this only happened when I had the extra supportive insert under the insole. I have never used the extra insert but when I first put these on the insert was already in and so I felt my toe constantly snagging. Once I took the insert out it dropped my foot enough that it is no longer a problem.

An average, ok shoe
Positives: I love the colors and fabric. The bottoms are very flat on the outside, however there is arch support inside the shoe. I have a high arch and find it is good.Negatives: The blue band that goes across the toes on the front of the shoe pushes down on my big toe causing a bit of discomfort. I am hoping that this will soften over time as the shoes get broken in, otherwise I would prefer to have ordered a half size larger.

Altra Zero Drop shoes are simply amazing. I am very active and have worn various shoes from Asics to Nike and many others, but I made the switch to Altra 2 years ago and have never gone back to any other shoe! I noticed a difference right away in how the zero drop allows me to utilize the entire length and stretch of the gastroc, soleus, tibialis posterior & flexors, whereas other shoes have a heel that is too high and forces you to unnaturally cut yourself short on the full stretch of the muscles. They are extremely comfortable and supportive, for work I am on my feet 8+ hours in the hospital and I just ordered another pair just for work. When you put these shoes on you don't want to take them off they're that comfortable! I've dealt with various injuries too such as patella alta, tight hamstrings and IT band, but I notice a difference in how Altra shoes support a natural structure & movement that mitigates pain & injuries. Also the width is another thing that makes Altra shoes superior to others which are usually too narrow and force your metatarsels to be squeezed together, compromising balance. The toes should never be restricted and be allowed to fan out, and Altra shoes are designed for this. Note that Altra shoes run a bit small. I normally wear a size 7 or 7.5 in other shoes but have to order a size 8.5 for the Altras. My sister normally wears a size 8 and has to order a 9 for Altra, so it seems that if you order 1 size up from what you normally wear, should be the right fit.

Band Across Toes is NOT Comfortable
I run in Altra Provisioness 1.0 shoes, size 8 (last year's model). I love them. So, I bought these, the current model, expecting them to be the same - or an improvement even. And while these shoes look nice, there is a band across the top of the toes that is VERY uncomfortable. It is not stretchy at all, so it presses down on the top of the toes. When I first put these shoes on, I thought they were too small - which was a shock as they were the same size as the previous model. Later, I took out the insoles and verified that the shoes are the same size. It is just my toes squishing underneath this toe band that makes the shoes feel tight. One of the things I like best about Altra is the wide toebox - the roominess. I used to suffer from ingrown toenails and other nail problems with other running shoes. However, the Provisioness 1.5 ruins that "roomy" feeling with the silly toe band. I can't run in the Provisioness 1.5, sadly. I will have to wait for next years' model, and hope that Altra learns from this mistake!

Perfect if you have a bunion!
I'm not a super-athletic marathon runner, I'm just a regular 26 year old momma to three little girls wanting a pair of shoes to work out in that would allow me to actually work out, and not sit on the sidelines due to my bunion (which I actually had surgery on, but returned after having another baby). I ordered up a size, as was recommended, and while it feels big, I know it's supposed to feel that way. I've had zero pain while working out (mostly just lifting and the elliptical, and I've run a few times with no pain), which is a huge blessing. I think the zero drop has as much to do with it being good for bunions as the wide toe box. That being said, they're not attractive-looking shoes. I love them enough for everything else to not take off any stars for this, but I would like some of the super-bright fun colors of other shoes right now. These (I got the green/aqua) are just kind of washed out and ehhh, plus the fact that they look like clown shoes.I do LOVE them, though, and I'm back to order a second pair to use outside the gym!

Size?
Nice shoe, quality feel. Sizing was a little different in terms of what I'm used to. I'm a 9 in almost every other brand but this was way to small. Also the band running across the top of the shoe is rather uncomfortable too, as it rubs on the tops of your toes. Not a bad shoe, just know the plus's and minuses before hand

Quite near the perfect running shoe - feels better than Nike Free
I am 5'3" & 120 lbs. I am a true size 7, with a narrower heel and overall foot width - kind of longish foot/arch. I always get a 7.5 in casual shoes and a 7 in heels (dress shoes) and an 8 in running shoes. The Altra Women's Provisioness 1.5 running shoe fits me perfectly in a size 8. To my knowledge, many of the running shoes fit on the small size - and therefore tend to crowd the toes. I am truly satisfied with this shoe. It is a zero drop shoe with a bit more padding then the traditional minimalistic runner found with other shoe manufactures. The toe box is wide, the heel fits well. The shoe is very comfortable. However, with the stability wedge in it, the shoe becomes crowded. Would love it if they would make a molded footbed almost like a Keen sandal to try instead of the stability wedge. This shoe fits and feels better than Nike Free and is zero drop.

Wides????? way too tight
The width is supposed to be wide. These running shoes were tight on my feet where the laces are and I had to take the inserts out to wear them. Once on without inserts they fit okay. The purple line across the toe area was very annoying after a few minutes. I am returning them for that reason.
