A find!
Moomin and the Birthday button is part of new line of books based on Tove Jansson's Moomin stories. It is the perfect introduction of the originals to toddlers and pre-schoolers.The drawings and the characters are still Tove Jansson's and the story lines have the same gentle whimsy and wisdom of the Moomin Valley. Great birthday gift for the little ones. Also, I highly recommend the new flap books.

Sweet and charming, about friendship and imperfect birthdays
Great illustrations and well-loved characters. Within a gentle story there are the themes of unintended hurt feelings, others not always sharing your own enthusiasm about particular things, finding consolation in family, things aren't always what they seem.

This book was a gift for my great-grandchildren. I feel that it must be of great value to them or their parents wouldn't have suggested it for their birthday.

Jansson is a genius
We love the Moomins. Great for families who don't give lots of presents on a birthday - Moomin gets small gifts and treasures them, and learns that friends are the best present of all.

Zero stars; this is not the real deal.
This book is not Tove Jansson and I don't think she would approve. For anyone who knows the Moomin books, the story of this book is wrong in that it is not the sort of plot or message that Tove would ever have written. Also, the characters are all wrong with regard to what they say. If you look carefully, you will see that the book is NOT by Tove Jansson (although she's listed as "author, illustrator" here) but rather is "based on the original stories by" Tove Jansson, which is totally different. I wish I had noticed the distinction. If you don't know the Moomin stories, this is probably fine. If you do and you love them, then you will be disappointed.

wonderful book
Our 2 year old loves this book. We read it five times the first day and daily since we got it. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is long enough to keep a toddler engaged but not too long that their attention starts to wander. This is now a favourite bed time read. I can remember reading Moomin books when I was young and it is nice to see they have aged very well.

beautiful story
I had previously borrowed this book from our local library and the kids (aged 2 and 5) loved it so much that I wanted them to have their own copy. It is a beautiful story with a very happy ending after an emotional couple of pages. Love the illustrations and bright colours, would recommend.

The artwork throughout the book is amazing. I bought it for my 54 year old mother who loved it. I'm 16 and I love it. Moomin is a great story for young and old. Will continue buying more moomin books.
