Does this hand vac work well on upholstery? I want to use it on my velvet sofa.

Yes, I should work on your velvet sofa. It really depends on what you want to vacuum up. The attachments are probably meant for dirt, crumbs and the like , not pet hair and other clingy things.

I have some attachments for a small shop vac. Will they work with this?

My guess is probably not. These attachments fit inside the the hose. The tools from a small shop vac usually fit outside the hose. he diameter on this hose is just under 1 1/2 inches. Hope this helps.
