Not as Pictured ; Don't have Black Stripe
The pencils that I received look exactly like the ones Amazon is selling for around $8 (same Basford packaging but no black stripe on the pencils) but are not an add on item like this item. These are the Staedtler regular Noris Club colored pencils that you can buy here on Amazon in a pack of 36 for only a dollar more than this 24 pack. After getting these and discovering these are the same pencils of the 36 pack of Staedtler Noris club; I picked them up as well for the additional colors. These pencils are able to be sharpened to a very sharp point and rarely break so they are perfect for the intricate details in Johanna Basford's "Lost Ocean." I love the bright and fun colors that are perfect for coloring fish and aquatic scenes.I first bought Prismacolor Verithins and the colors weren't bright and the pencils had issues with broken cores. These Staedtler pencils are a lot of fun to color with and you spend your time coloring and not constantly sharpening them like other pencils. Just a crank or two will sharpen them. These pencils easily glide along the paper and I like that I have more control with these than I do with my Prismacolor soft core pencils which also aren't good with intricate details like these pencils.

These pencils are absolutely the best I have tried
I have been testing out different types of mediums for use on Johanna Basfords coloring books as well as well as the Creative Color coloring books. These pencils are absolutely the best I have tried. The tips are strong, the color is outstanding on every pencil. They blend beautifully and I have also used them with Prismacolor blending pencil. I HIGHLY recommend these pencils if you can find them. They seem to sell out as soon as they are listed. Johanna Basford I believe did a special edition box using this pencil set and as far as I have researched the colors are the same. I feel lucky to have purchased the last 24 pencil box set listed on Amazon a few days ago. I found that while the Prismacolor pencils were gorgeous and smooth and creamy, the cores kept breaking and the pencils were getting ruined when sharpening - may have been caused by shipping - as the cores were broken. I am searching for a larger box with more colors of these Stedtler Noris 185 pencils. They are beyond my expectations

Another Great Value in a nice general use pencil set.
I am a big fan of Staedtler pencils. This set is equal to the more expensive Veri Thin pencils. I like the harder pencils for small areas. Having a set of Staedtler hard lead pencils will make it easy to use these along with my new 36 color set and the 24 ergosoft in my collection.I did read several reviews and did use the tip for sharpening these to remove the factory coating. I just use the pencil sharpener to knock off the edge. They all worked fine for me.

Nice pencils, for someone that knows how to use them....
I don't know if I am qualified to review these, but reading others reviews, i want to put my 2¢ in....I'm not an artist, I just play one on t.v....lol....I am learning, and i don't think it's the fault of these pencils. But, i do know I don't like how light they write, no matter what. They seem hard, and you have to put a lot of pressure on them, yet you still don't get much color. So as far as these pencils go, I think they are nice quality, but i think I lack the proper know-how to use these correctly. I think someone more experienced could get these pencils to preform better. So I'm giving them the stars they deserve, yet saying, i don't like them....i hope that makes sense.

Love the feel
I love the weight, feel of these pencils. They are more opaque, clearer, than a typical wax pencil. Yet, theycan be used specifically for that purpose. The hard cores sharpen to a precise point that’s useful for tight spaces.Once played with on a scrap of card stock, I got the feel for how they work.I’m glad I got these for their unique properties.

... THESE AT A LOCAL MICHAEL'S STORE AND WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THEM AT ALL
I BOUGHT THESE AT A LOCAL MICHAEL'S STORE AND WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THEM AT ALL. I HAVE SINCE READ ON HERE THAT THERE IS A WAX COVERING ON THE TIPS? ANYWAY I DECIDED TO TRY THEM AGAIN AND WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED THIS TIME. THE COLORS LAY DOWN NICE AND I ACTUALLY SEE SOME COLOR AND JUST A FAINT LAYER LIKE LAST TIME. AND THE BEST PART... THEY WERE CHEAPER ON AMAZON THEN WITH MY COUPON AT MICHAEL'S.

Beautiful hues
Very nice pencils for the price. I mean they were cheap! I have not bought a Staedtler product that I have not been impressed with. These pencils are beautiful, rich hues, octagon shape so do not roll away, and layer very nicely. Very easy to build up the color.
