Works with old IDE DVD-ROM
This adapter works fine with my old 5.25 IDE LG DVD-ROM drive where the power connector pins are right next to the 40 pin IDE connector on the drive. Other adapters were unable to fit these types of drives because there wasn't enough room between these pin areas but this one is designed correctly! I am running this on Ubuntu and the software easily identified the drive and connected it as /dev/sr1. (I already had another drive on this system.) So far so good. I ordered it yesterday, it arrived today and it only took a couple of minutes to set it up. Very happy so far!

Lifesaver and one of the most useful and value for money pieces of kit I've bought ...
Lifesaver! My Windows 10 laptop died. It was a start up problem rather than a hard drive problem but my actual problem was I only do a back up once per week and the death occurred 6 days after the previous back up. But within those 6 days I had accumulated some REALLY important emails, invoices, guarantees, hotels and flight bookings etc .... all of which were on my Win10 laptop hard drive!!!! The laptop was within warranty but I knew they'd immediately wipe it before attempting repair so I had to retrieve and back up all my stuff first.... a problem considering the darn thing wouldn't power on. So, I bought this and removed the hard drive from the laptop and connected it to this.Easy to follow instructions and things can't plug in where they shouldn't anyway. So I managed to successfully retrieve my data and transfer it to my newer external hard drive. Put the internal hard drive back in the laptop and sent it off. As it happened, they couldn't repair it and gave me a new replacement one.I also have a Windows 7 laptop and an old Maxtor external hard drive. The Maxtor isn't compatible with Windows 10 so I can't use it with my current laptop, only my old Windows 7 one and it's on it's last legs too so I was worried that soon, I wouldn't be able to access my stuff on my old Maxtor (all family photos and videos since my son's birth in 2002). They're irreplaceable so I've also now used this purchase to access, retrieve and copy everything on that onto my newer, bigger but portable external hard drive. So now I have precious stuff backed up twice just in case any one of the devices fails.I have a 10yr old desktop computer running Windows XP. It too at the moment won't power on. I may be able to fix it but at least I know if I can't, when I get around to it, I can still remove it's hard drive and use this purchase to access and retrieve and save anything that's on there that I also want to keep. Finally, my technophobic father in law also has the same Windows 7 laptop as mine. I do all his backups and fix his problems remotely, however I wasn't able to save his internal hard drive when it corrupted. Fortunately I'd only backed up all his photos, emails, docs, and ENORMOUS music library a few months beforehand ... but again it rammed home to me a couple of things...... the need for regular back ups AND the need to have something like this Bipra Kit when you NEED to back up but can't actually switch your device on to access your hard drive. So I'm feeling a lot more comfortable with my options now.I've also helped a few friends out using it too so it has definitely been worth the money and way cheaper than using professionals to do the same job.

... macht was es soll!
