Madam Secretary: Season 1

But when I compare it to my all-time favorite D. C political show featuring a woman as ...
By itself, it's a 4 star show. But when I compare it to my all-time favorite D.C political show featuring a woman as the star attraction--"Commander-In-Chief", that 2005-06 series starring Geena Davis as our first female President--it's then when "Madam Secretary", starring Tea Leoni as US Secretary of State, gets reduced by a star.I gave it 4 stars, not just 3, because, in many ways, it's quite similar to "C-i-C"--at least in its "Pilot" episode and the 2nd episode, the only 2 I've watched so far. Here's a few of those similarities.1. Leoni plays a former CIA person who resigned for ethical reasons after 4 years, and is a Professor at the University of Virginia when she's asked by the President to become the S of S after his current S of S suddenly dies in a plane crash. Davis played a former Congresswoman who had resigned after 4 years for ethical reasons, and is the Chancellor of the University of Richmond, also in Virginia, when then-candidate Teddy Bridges asks her to be his VP. After 2 years have passed, the President suddenly dies, and she becomes the President.2. "C-i'C's POTUS is almost a clone of Madam Secretary's POTUS--in the face and in their build.3. They each have 3 kids, 2 daughters and a son.One of the daughters in each show is somewhat rebellious, and does things that cause their mother problems in her job.4. In M.S., the President's Chief of Staff is antagonistic to the new Secretary, and has somewhat of an "in" with the POTUS. (Although so does Leoni! In fact, POTUS was Director of the CIA for 12 years before becoming President, and was the one to recruit Leoni for the job!)In "C-i-C", President Mac Allen's main foe is played by Donald Sutherland, the Speaker of the House, who happens to have a long-term friendship with "Bridges".However, Sutherland's character is MUCH more "demonic" than her "enemy" in Madam Secretary.I enjoyed both shows, but the older show seemed more serious--far less joking around among her staff. Both shows deal mostly with foreign policy crises, with a fair sprinkling of domestic family matters. Both women are beautiful, though Leoni seems to be a 45 year old played by someone who might be able to pass for 29, thus creating less gravitas for the seriousness of her position.I don't know, maybe the remaining episodes of "Madam Secretary" will alter my opinion somewhat--or not at all.But for now, I recommend you buy the DVD of "Commander-in-Chief" if you want to see a strong woman in a most strong position of governance in our nation's capital!

Great Series!
I really like this Television Series and bought ALL Six (6) Seasons, but the only major complaint that I have is that many of the Episodes tend to get a bit preachy in regards to subtle political issues being pushed. I'm very well aware that one's "feelings" and political views tend to leak into a Television and/or Movie Series, but it gets old after a while. Otherwise, I give it "5 Stars" for being entertaining.

Watching season 1 while waiting for season 3
Very enjoyable show. We came in on the middle of season 1 and are just now catching up with all the characters' backstories. There are some surface similarities to a certain Aaron Sorkin show, but unlike the women on his shows, these women characters are allowed to be competent people. Sure, Elizabeth McCord has foibles, but she's not an idiot like the producer on The Newsroom, who had one moment of professional brilliance per episode and the rest of the time ran around like the proverbial headless chicken. (Also, the women on Madam Secretary don't seem to have the difficulties with hair flopping in their faces that plagued the aforementioned producer character, although Daisy seems to be stuck wearing summer clothes year round. Even beautiful toned arms get cold in January, don't they?) As for plots, I don't mind if a world crisis is averted every week; real life is dreary enough. Téa Leoni and Tim Daly do a great job depicting a strong marriage. They're good parents, and the kids are realistic, though some scenes border on the too-cute (they're all so chatty in the morning; who is actually like that?). Other acting standouts are Bebe Neuwirth and Erich Bergen, and Željko Ivanek is superb. All in all, a great show to end the weekend with and I'm looking forward to season 3. (I do wish the poster wasn't so ridiculously Photoshopped. Do they really think we can't tell? Do they really think Téa Leoni's face needs enhancing?)

Another good political series.
This took a few episodes to hook me, but I am watching the series which we did not see when it was broadcast. Good plots, good acting. After a few seasons the writers seem to have problems coming up with new situations so I may not finish them all. I am amazed at the relationships between the main characters. Very natural, which indicates the excellence of their acting abilities. It also shows the behind-the-scenes of the Secretary and other major leaders roles and manipulations to keep the government functioning in spite of the adverse attempts to dismantle it. If you like politics. Watch it.

Téa Leoni nails it!
Téa Leoni is absolutely spectacular in this role. This role seems to have been custom made for her. She has nailed the part, and we are only in episode 4.It seems like this is the decade for serial dramas, and one has to be discriminating or else one would be glued to the screen 24/7! TiVo or no TiVo, one can only watch so much; so therefore, I personally give a show the pilot plus maybe two episodes to trap me, and then it is remove it from ''season pass" and move on.This is a sophisticated drama and is definitely not for everyone, because of the subtle wit and humor that is not knee slapping funny, but appealing because the characters are so comfortable in their individual roles. They draw us in by their realism. So many times actors take an entire season to become really comfortable with the part and each other. Not Madam Secretary. One would think one was watching our government in action. I say this with major tongue in cheek because our current administration couldn't come close to governing the way this fictitious administration is handling affairs both foreign and domestic.Suffice it to say, the characters work; the plot works, and I hope the powers that be give this one a chance. We need more sophisticated shows on the airwaves.

Serie entretenida
Serie entretenida aunque esperaba más intriga, más emoción. Interesante que la protagonista sea una mamá qué puede con todo al mismo tiempo
