Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE-KIT 24x Internal CD DVD±R/RW Dual Layer Disc Burner Drive Writer + Nero 12 Essentials + Sata Cable Kit

Purchased 2 drives, installed them using the supplied SATA cables and one of the power connectors supplied with the drives. Both installed easily plug and play. Drivers that Windows 7 loaded for the drives were the same as the ones for my old ribbon IDE DVD drives that were connected and jumpered as master / slave. Excellent drives, very quiet and fast - I've experienced no read or write errors to date. Reads/Records CDs and Single & Dual Layer DVDs I had no need to load the Nero software. Sticker on Nero disc does read " this software will not expire.

I have an old DVD that could not be read at all by my samsung blu-ray console machine. I couldn't read the disk at all with a Pioneer, Asus, or LiteOn DVD ROM/Writer. I have a handful of DVD-Rs with scratched or degraded areas on the discs that cannot be read. I read that this drive was one of the better DVD ROM drives for reading bad discs and I decided to give it a try. I was able to read and backup the DVD that was unreadable by any other drive. I was also able to read most of the bad areas of my other discs that the other readers could not. This was a relatively cheap investment to recover some old DVDs and it also works great as a DVD writer.

So far, it's been a good drive. Installation was quick and easy and Windows 7 saw it immediately and installed with no trouble. It's very quiet which is a plus. Don't bother with the Nero disc - it's more or less an in for Nero to sell their software and is not needed for the drive to operate.

I bought this for older Dell 4700 computer w/ win XP. Have a lot of games and productive software that I still use and love. The older optical drive would occasionally stutter and lockup mostly during game play. My older drive used the big flat cable interface. However I found that I had an empty SATA port, Hooray. (SATA is rated faster). Computer is now faster, quieter, and with no game or software lag. I chose Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE-KIT 24x Internal CD writer because it was the only one that had a 1.5 MB buffer memory. I could not find the specs listed for the others. Very happy with purchase. Also Nero 12 has a sticker on the CD sleeve that says "This Trial Version Will NOT Expire after 30 days".?? I have not installed, maybe they are saying its a watered down version that works.

I went back and forth on whether or not I needed a disc drive, and finally settled thinking that I'd rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have it. I wasn't looking for a feature-rich drive, just something that could read the occasional install disc for those programs that weren't digital download style. Drive is quiet during use, with only the slight run up noise when a disc is being read. Drive opens fast, and closes just as quick. It does what I need it to do, and that's just swell.

The product works..its very quiet..but its very slow..took hours to burn a disk ..I'm use to quicker burns.

If you need an upgrade (like I did) or just a new installation (extra drive) this is a great choice. It comes with everything you need. It's fast and accurate. It doesn't overheat, you can burn DVD after DVD. I bought two of them to have matching drives, fast less than five minute installation. Then I copied six Dual Layer DVDs back to back without issue. I highly recommend this drive system.

Works well. The sata cable that it came with was no good but I had a new one laying around. I hooked up the new cable and both Windows and OSX recognized it with no issues (custom built machine with swappable hard drives in case you're scratching your head). The burning software it came with was useless to me since I already had burning software but the burner itself is solid.
