Dremel 335-01 Rotary Tool Plunge Router Attachment, Compact & Lightweight for Light-Duty Routing Projects, Perfect for Woodworking & Inlay Work, Black Medium

This attachment has increased my scope of service ten fold. The Dremel is a very viable tool with the router assembly for smaller, more precise work that a conventional router is just too cumbersome and overpowered for.

This was a great price and a quslity addition for my Dremmel tool goodies.

Overall this plunge router kit worked great, easy to assemble with minimal fuss. The Dremel felt very secure in the tool and was easy to change bits with minimal effort. My intended use case was to router out some letters for an engraved epoxy table top, so I was using a 1/8” bit in multiple passes to reach a desired depth for pouring. For a baseline, this was my first project using a handheld router, plunge or otherwise, for routing designs. Pros: - Once you’re at depth, the tool makes it easy to see exactly where the bit is (good visibility overall) - The depth lock knob (rotating one of the handles) worked well and is what I used pretty much exclusively Cons: - There is no form of dust collection attachment to hook up a vacuum to keep things clean as you work. As a result, I found myself either having to stop and vacuum often (at least once a minute or so in my use case) or risk overshooting my guide lines. If you’re free-handing a design or not looking to take too much material per pass, this would be great. However, if your use case involves taking a large amount of shavings a good amount of material per pass while trying to follow lines, I’d recommend investing in a router with vacuum attachment.

Lots of complaints about "stiff springs" or "hard to plunge" but the only time i had that issue is if i didn't loosen the plunge lock knob enough. It is a relatively fine adjustment and takes SEVERAL turns before the plunge function is smooth and easy. This is a feature not a bug. The depth stop sucks big time, never stays where you put it since they are plastic threads that just vibrate loose. But I don't really think it's that necessary on a cheap flimsy tool. This thing is exactly what you should get for the price, you want a little better accuracy and quality then buy a WEN router for $20-$40 more. Perfect, exactly the right price, exactly what I needed for some routing in some custom 2x4 lumber shelves I'm making. Make sure everything is tight and you fully seat the tool straight and it works well. You get what you pay for, this tool is exactly what you need if you are shopping in this price point.

The Dremel 335-01 plunge router base does work as advertised, up to a point. It does turn the Dremel tool into a small lightweight router. Side to side motion is easy to control, and freehand routing is possibile with this base. It could also serve as a tool holder for other applications, e.g., grinding. I bought the plunge router base for inlay work. I intended to use it to clean out the recess for the inlay. It can be used for that purpose, but barely. The depth adjustment requires fussy trial and error, and once set is still imprecise & unreliable. The base is made of plastic and is too flexible. Therefore, the depth stop cannot control the depth of cut. As a consequence, the plunge feature is useless for precise work. This a major problem for inlay that is, for example, 1/32" thick. The depth stop has to be adjustable to within 1/64" or so, to leave the inlay a bit proud, so it can be smoothed flush with the workpiece. I cannot rely on this tool for inlay work. Inlay is the last step before finishing, and there is a lot of time and money into the workpiece by that step. A ruined recess could mean a ruined workpiece. Instead, I use a Veritas Router Plane (a hand tool). It is very precise and stable. People looking for a power tool for precise inlay work should consider the Stewart-MacDonald base. It costs twice as much, and is not a plunge base, but apparently it can be adjusted precisely. If precise depth adjustment is important to you, keep looking.

Does a pretty good job for what it is.

I wish to have a second dremel in future to use this as a permanent router! Perfect... find a video for the set up and follow step by step the instructions.
