Harming/torturing animals is a big NOPE!!
I'm not squeamish. I consume horror books and movies on a daily basis. It's my favorite genre. Therefore, I've no problem with horrific things happening - to HUMANS. Abusing, torturing, or otherwise harming non-human living creatures, even if fictional is extremely sick, disgusting, and disturbing, and makes me wonder about the character of the author. After reading the first story which involved a cat (a lot of which I skipped over), I wasn't sure if I could finish the book because the content of that story kind of threw a bad light on it, but I decided to continue on. The next few stories were mediocre at best, but at least they only involved human victims. Then I got to a story called "Eight Legged Vengence" which entailed a tarantula being thrown into cake batter and put into an oven to be baked alive. That was it - I immediately deleted the book from my Kindle and also the other books that I had purchased by this author and not yet read, which unfortunately, were several.

Fun from front to back
Jeff Strand makes everything entertaining. Everything. Things that shouldn't be funny suddenly are hysterical. Don't stop with the last story, his authors' notes are wonderful to read. I am glad he included them at the very end of the book which makes them completely up to you if you want to know extra stuff. He is FUNNY. I'm already looking forward to his forthcoming collect (number 4!). Once I pick up a book by Jeff Strand, I make time to keep reading.

Twisted, dark and satirical. Great stories.
Oh good Lord, where to start? If you have a particular taste (I avoid the snarky remarks of others who may say "or lack thereof") a new book by Jeff Strand is always reason to celebrate. For the time you wander around in Jeff's world you can be sure that you will repeatedly (l) laugh at something so inappropriate and twisted that you cannot tell anyone what you were laughing at (2) wince at something so awful and well described that it comes very close to causing actual pain (3) stop and think about a profound moment hidden in thick humorous satire (4) be amazed at how good a writer Strand is while at the same time wonder how someone so funny could also be so twisted. If you like the irreverent humor of David Sidaris but also enjoy horror, if you don't take yourself or literary conventions very seriously, and if you want to read an author that really pushes the edge of good taste (or more like jumps squealing with glee over that precipice) then you need to give Strand a try.

Strand's collection of gore and comedy
Another one of Jeff Strand's collections of gore and comedy. I have read several horror anthology books by other authors and this one by Jeff Strand is one of the better ones, however I have yet to find one that I really enjoyed all of the stories. The introduction at the beginning of the book is actually more humorous than a lot of the stories to follow. All that being said, I did enjoy 'Dead Clown Barbecue ', just not quite as much as all of Strand's other books, hence the 3 stars.

Not shocking enough to cover the lack of storytelling
This is the first book by this author I've read and, if this is any indication of the quality of his other work, it's going to be the last.It just isn't very good. Sure there's got gore, sure there's horrible scenarios, but there's no stories, nothing other than attempts at shocking you to keep your attention.I don't know, maybe I've grown callous and unfeeling over the years, but these stories neither shock nor entertain me. It feels like reading bad creepypastas.

A Collection of Truly Twisted Humor
Dead Clown Barbecue is not for everyone, but it was definitely a good fit for me.Even though it is lumped in the "horror" category, this is more of a collection of black humor tales.I give it four stars instead of five because after reading "Pressure", it is very evident that Jeff Strand is capable of bringing more to the table than what is shown in this collection. Sure, he is a great comedy writer with a very unique voice, but when he delves into the dark recesses of humanity, he truly shines as one of the best writers around.I will say that Dead Clown Barbecue is a quick and fun read with many different humorous stories and one that is pitch black ("Burden"), but if you are going to buy only one book by Jeff Strand, make sure that it is "Pressure".

Dead Clown Barbecue Rocks!
Strand delivers again. Dead Clown Barbecue is a collection of comically grotesque stories that will make you laugh, groan, and possibly never want to eat ribs again. Ranging from drolly humorous to outright darkly farcical, this collection has something for everyone - as long as everyone has a sense of humor. Nothing is off limits in Strand's world, whether it be roasting clowns for hungry people, following a skydiver's final thoughts, or watching two bumbling idiots try to get revenge on a girl. This book contains both new and previously published stories, some of which haven't seen print in a while so it was nice to read them again. If you like a nice chuckle with your apocalypse, this is the book for you.

Shock, gore, horror and humor, what more can you ask for? Wild imagination? That's there too! AAAAAAAAA++++++
This book of short stories is Strand at his best! Where he comes up with his wild ideas I will never know, and not sure i want to know...lol but, in my opinion, no one on the planet can mix crazy, gory, insane stories that also make you laugh out loud like he does. If you are already a fan, this is a MUST READ, if you are new to Strand's work, this is a MUST READ! I read the book in one sitting, just when I thought he couldn't top one of the stories, he continued to prove me wrong. I highly recommend this book, you will not be bored, EVER, or disappointed, but you will be ADDICTED to his work, so be prepared for that!

Strand Madness and humour
A collection of short stories from Mr. Strand. Now I find it quite hard to review anthologies of the same author. Mixed as well because you are going to get stories you love and some you think are okay. NONE of the stories in this collection are rubbish.A mixed bag from zombies and killers to just deranged-nearly all with that hint of dark humour that sums up Jeff's writing. There will be something here to bite into even if it's just a quick snack, a nibble on a nose perhaps.

Jeff, I was only kidding!
When I heard author Jeff Strand had threatened to read my novel Barnacle Brat (a dark comedy for grown-ups) I retaliated by saying I knew one-upmanship when I saw it and would beat him at his own game! And, as we both have clowns on our covers, Dead Clown Barbecue was the obvious choice. Well, I have to report, all ribbing and joking aside, that I really enjoyed his work. I love Jeff's wacky imagination and unpredictable dialogue, and the book made me laugh a lot. A lot! My particular favourites from this collection of short stories were Comeuppance, The Apocalypse Ain’t So Bad, Here’s What Happened, The Severed Nose, and Dummy. Because of the latter, I suspect Jeff, like me, has a distrust of ventriloquist dummies! Having given the book 5 stars, I now feel ready for a Jeff Strand novel and have messaged the author to ask which one of his books he would recommend I start with. And soon as he replies, I will place my order with Amazon. I haven’t heard back from him yet but I figure he might just be sulking about my one-upmanship comment. Jeff, I was only kidding! Honestly, authors can be so temperamental. Trust me, I know!

Really enjoyed this.
Tongue in cheek horror with a witty dry bite. I don't think there were any tall tales I didn't like. Some where exceptional. Glad I found this author.

Horror written with humour
A well written collection of short stories on a horror theme but written to amuse more than to shock.
