Where The River Begins (Patricia St John Series)

Another excellent true-to-life story by Patricia St. John!
The stories written by Patricia St. John may say they are for young readers (grade school through high school), but they hold a realism in the problems of life and the assurance of eternal life that it holds one's attention even if you're in your 20's or 50's. As a family of adults, Patricia's stories have not gotten "beneath" us. We either remember well the difficulties of our own childhood, our our children's, or simply enjoy the way that Miss St. John wove a tale that convinces us that we're hearing something close to the heart. Though firmly based upon a Scriptural foundation, the author did not sugar coat the problems one encounters in 20th or 21st century families. Nor did she offer easy solutions to the problems troubled families face by writing "If you just believe in Jesus, all your troubles will go away." That is what makes her stories so gripping: they are realistic, touch the heart, and show that, even in an imperfect, fallen world, Christ is the answer.

The best book ever
This book is amazing!!! At some parts, I felt like crying because of all the troubles that's going on, and in other parts I want to go to my mother and sit with her like little Francis did. I read this book in two days it was so good. I loved the foster family! Awesome!!!!!

Well done.
This is a great book to illistrate the Love of God. It is a good reminder that until the love of God is in you, you cannot properly love anyone or anything.

I enjoy them myself but I read most of them to ...
If Patricia St John wrote it I would read it. It's geat christian literature but the settings are British from many years ago!! I enjoy them myself but I read most of them to my elementary kids. Very deep and meaningful.

Dark and depressing
A bad turn from all her previous books. We had to quit reading it since there seemed no redeeming qualities.

sweet story
This is a sweet story. It very relatable to young people today. It shows how redemption can come to any person.

A moving tale of reconciliation and discovery.
This is a lovely book for anyone to read and especially to read together with your children. It tells of an unhappy little boy whose life is filled with difficulties and who is trying (unsuccessfully)to find a way to deal with them. Then he meets a family who open up another world to him of acceptance and love - soon they are caring for him as foster parents until he can be reunited with his Mum. His whole world is turned upside down as he finds another, far more successful way of dealing with obstacles he meets and the reconciliation between him and his mother at the end of the book is very moving.
