Q: Can the star be removed?

Yes. The star unscrews from the column. The branches are removable from each tier. And the column is two pieces screwed together.

Q: Why do I only have 4 hangers?

Mine has 12 "branches" with 3 hangers on each.

Q: Could you put full size ornaments on this?

There are a couple of places on each branch where you can hang an ornament so size would depend on where you're hanging the ornament. If you are only hanging them on the outside you could probably hang large ornaments, say 8", except for the bottom branches which only have 7" of clearance. You could put the tree up on some kind of stand to solve that problem though. The space is smaller on the inner branches and would also depend on the size of the ornament on the end of the branch. Or vice versa.

Yes, the star comes with the tree.
