Crusin down the street in my 6-4
Straight Outta Compton is a musical. That means it presents the biggest hits of N.W.A., Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and wraps a story around it with some real events, some not.The movie starts with the main players. Eazy E was a drug dealer. Dr. Dre and Dj Yella worked together as DJs but were unhappy with their gig, Ice Cube was in school writing lyrics. MC Ren was a friend of Eazy’s and the D.O.C. was tight with Dre. They all came together to form N.W.A. and released the single Boyz N The Hood. That brings in their manager Jerry Heller. Then they put on their first show featuring the song Dopeman. That’s the rhythm of the movie. There’s a main event, and then a song that goes along with it.If you want to get technical there’s a lot that gets left out. For example, the Arabian Prince was an original member but he’s not included. Dre and Yella were in the World Class Wrecking Cru and released two albums, but in the movie it’s portrayed like N.W.A. was their first venture into music. On the other hand, Eazy E’s parties were infamous. The fight between Ruthless people and Ice Cube’s after the two split at the New Music Seminar went down. Does that matter to the average viewer? No. What you get is great music with some interesting events like the Ice Cube’s diss tracks against N.W.A. after the split, the craziness that was Suge Knight, Ice Cube smashing his record executive’s office for not paying him, the discovery of Snoop, and of course Eazy contracting AIDS and dying. People loved it too. When I saw the film in a theater people were singing along with the lyrics.Along the way you also get a slice of 1980s-90s LA that gave rise to that music. Of course, that means touching on the crack years with the gangs and drugs, but there’s also the hanging out on Crenshaw on the weekend with all the people and cars, the parties, etc. There’s also the police harassment of young black men.Overall you get great music with an engaging story.C

A Blu-Ray worth buying
Now let's clear up something right from the off, this is a movie about a very controversial hip-hop group and the majority of the film will contain hip-hop music. If hip-hop is a genre of music you dislike then stay away from this movie as it will result in bias negative reviews judged purely on a preference. The film is in my eyes one of the best of 2015. Went to see this in cinemas and got this blu-ray on release day.The performances of the actors is convincing, raw and refreshing delivering a believable atmosphere and story. For me personally the actor as Dr. Dre stole the show as he had the biggest variety of emotional performances to give and his character development meant switching up his acting style to really show the origin of hip hops pioneer realistically. The soundtrack is authentic and hip hop/ nwa fans will love everything from seeing Eazy-E's hilarious first recording session, a young ice cubes back story stretching through to the early days of his acting career and the inclusion of the death row years in Dre's life showing how he eventually stood up to Suge Knight and created aftermath (a label which spawned one of the best rappers of the 21st century... A certain 'white boy'). Its an added bonus seeing a cameo of '2pac' and the extreme resemblence his actor has with the original rap artist who is also going to star in the upcoming Tupac movie. If you love hip-hop this is like a giant christmas present on a disc. The Blu-ray itself comes in a very smooth sleeve and Amazon delivered it in pristine condition. There is an extended cut albeit not a very noticeable difference to the original something its still a bonus and its crammed with special features for you to dig into. All in all this is a Blu-Ray worth buying simply because of how much the movie offers and how much more the disc gives with it. Nothing better than hearing 'straight outta compton' play in crisp quality audio; really brings the track to life much like this release does for the movie. MUST OWN*****

Witness the strength of street knowledge!
I must admit I was sceptical about buying this. The film it's self is very good and depicts most major events that transpired during Easy E's short life in the music industry. There was a couple of little side bits I would like to have seen. All in all this is a fantastic tribute to the origins of gangsta rap and the struggle to survive from those who wished to silence street youth culture. R.I.P Easy E, you are sadly missed by all who grew up hearing your voice.

brilliant film about the music industry and corrupt record company managers
brilliant film and insight on how NWA developed as solo artists afterwards. From the first scene where we find out how ruthless records name came about with easy E drug deal and his customer calling him ruthless, to the band relationship with there manager. Great extra scenes and making of documentaries and booming soundtrack in HD quality with digital sound. I can watch this film again and again

Banging film from NWA
Was into NWA as a kid. Really glad I bought this as I found out quite a bit more about the group, the trials and tribulations they went through, backgrounds, alliances, enemies and basically the out and out struggle facing them and others to survive. I recommend this film as it is not only excellent but also is educational. Challenges social stigmas in a confrontational way. Ranks up there with Public Enemy.

Straight Outta classic!
It doesn't matter whether you like rap music or not, this film is a great tale of triumph against adversity. The young actors who play the band members are all great in their respective roles, particularly Jason Mitchell (Eazy E), O'Shea Jackson Junior (Ice Cube) & Corey Hawkins (Dr Dre). The blu ray picture is crystal clear which added to the experience of a thoroughly enjoyable film, one that intend to watch over and over again.
