Not Wide Enough
For me and my US size 11 EE feet, these shoes in the same alleged size are too narrow: too tight at the ball of the foot, with even more width restriction forward into the toe box.One photo shows the Salomon insoles next to insoles from Fila shoes of US size 11 D -- not wide. They are both about the same width at the ball: 3.75 inches wide. My EE feet are about 4.625 inches wide. Further, while the souls narrow forward of the ball, my feet and toes do not. Aside from these narrow souls, the width of these Salomon shoes is similarly too narrow.FWIW, the tag on the inside of the shoe shows size US 11, not 11 EE, but the box tag does show 11EE, and there is a label on the show stating "Wide Fit".

New generation = tough break-in period and limited life
I have bought about 5-7 pairs of this shoe in the last ten or so years. Unfortunately, what I heard about the diminished quality of this generation is correct.I received the shoe just prior to shooting video at a trade show. Lots of time on my feet hauling gear. I like these shoes in black because they have all the capability of a hiking shoe while appearing fairly professional. This pair had a painful break-in period that I have never experienced in any previous pair. I'm used to comfort out of the box with Salomon but it seems like they have substantial changed materials and manufacturing processes. If you do plan to purchase these, be aware.I received the shoes at the beginning of May. They became my go-to, everyday shoe (as did all other generations of these shoes). I do a bit of running in them as well, but not as much as I'd like. The main reason to pay over $150 for these shoes is that with the Gore-Tex I don't have to question whether I'm putting the right shoes on for any activity - working in the yard or going for a jog on a rainy day is no problem. However, after only 5-6 months of regular wear, the material at the toe cap is separating from the rest of the shoe. This renders the Gore-Tex useless at waterproofing. I typically expected about a year of actual waterproof wear from these shoes before.I have always been a Salomon fan since I discovered the brand in the scratch and dent section at REI over a decade ago. My past experiences gave me no reason to look into other brands. Unfortunately it seems like the brand is choosing to go into a direction leaning towards urban aesthetics and is integrating new, lower quality manufacturing processes into its legacy designs. I'm a bit sad because they have been so dependable before. I can't justify spending even more money on the shoes when they are headed to the landfill twice as fast. Too bad.

Let me tell you why I hate them.
First off, the only reason I give these a two-star rating is that I feel no one bothers to take one-star ratings seriously. Zero stars is what I rate them in my heart. I absolutely hate these shoes. The quick lacing system cannot have enough bad things said about it. I cannot freakin' believe the hype people give these wonky shoelaces! They're AWFUL! People say they're fast and quick? Unless you're counting milliseconds, they're absolutely no faster than tying regular laces. There is more to it than just pulling the quick lace tight. You still have to do something with all that overhang, and it takes time to roll it up, bunch it up, whatever it up, in order to tuck it somewhere out of the way. The number one thing that bugs me about these laces is how much people overhype them as if they're SO amazeballs wonderful. Uhmm, no, they are not wonderful. They're freakin' terrible. I truly hate this lacing system and am astonished it's as popular as it is. But moving on...Their wide is not a true wide. I've had my feet professionally sized, and a 12-Wide (EE) is exactly what I wear. Salomon wides fit like a lot of normal standard non-wide shoes. I don't know how things work in France or wherever these things are made, but here in the good ol' US of A, when someone says they wear a wide shoe, then by golly it means they have a wide foot and need a wide shoe!I hate how they look and I hate how they fit. I can't recall ever disliking a shoe more than I dislike these Salomons. The one and only good thing I can say about these shoes is that if you pull a new pair out of the box and just sit there looking at them, then wow, they look really great. Then you try them on and lace them up and walk around a bit, and all you feel is disgust.Rarely has a product ever failed so completely to live up to the hype as these shoes. I'm sure plenty of others will continue singing their praises, but the world can take notice that at least one person out there really hates Salomon shoes, and that person is me.
