Still a great watch in 2022!
Hi folks! So today I received the Apple Watch Series 6 in Product Red. Series 7 is the latest Apple Watch, but the series 6 is extremely similar to the 7.So it’s still early days. It only arrived today, but already this is an absolutely huge improvement over the Series 3 that I have been using. The first good point is the display. It’s noticeably bigger than the series 3, and nice to look at too. It helps that the bezels are far smaller, and they are curved (makes it nice to look at) but the display itself is also crystal clear. Colours are great too!I decided on product Red because I like the colour, and the material of the strap is also a little different compared to the series 3 I had previously. Both the series 3 and 6 have a silicone strap, but the material has been improved with the series 6…it’s a newer type of silicone called fluoroelastomer. This is supposed to be a better, stronger material that is also less likely to be damaged when coming into contact with harsh or abrasive substances etc. Ultimately, the strap is just simply better and should last longer than ever before. It’s still high quality like all of the other straps from Apple, but you can definitely feel a difference.Apart from the look and feel of it though, it’s absolutely packed with so much cool tech. Yes it’s great for fitness, and yes it does sleep tracking very well. It also has a nice big selection of Watch faces, and you can use your own Memoji as a watch face too. That’s very cool! What has me all excited though is the ECG, heart rate monitor and blood oxygen apps - they are all superb. You shouldn’t rely solely on these of course, but it’s nice to have the ability to check on your own heart, in your own time, on your own wrist. Absolutely superb!!Battery life has been great so far. It has lasted a full day and still has around 60% remaining. It’s day one with my new watch, so I’ve been using it all day…and yet the battery seems to be doing great! It will take a few days to see how the battery actually holds up, but so far, so good! The Watch app for iPhone is also very handy. You can do most things on the watch itself, but the app just makes it a little bit easier to see all of the settings in one place.Oh and the speaker on the Apple Watch is MUCH louder compared with the series 3. The series 3 now seems very quiet indeed. So as I said, it is still early days. Everything is looking good so far. But comparing the 6 to the 3, I am very pleased. It’s certainly worth the upgrade if you are considering it…that is unless the series 7 tempts you even more.If you aren’t yet able to splash out on a series 7, the series 6 is an incredible alternative.

Great smart watch.
Used mainly as a fitness tracker and so far it’s great. A nice motivator during lockdown and a accurate enough measure of my activities where I can quantify my hikes and workouts, therefore tailoring things like my calorie intake. The heart monitoring is great and accurately records bpm, ECG works just fine, and the blood O2 has worked fine for me. I know a lot of people have had issues with this but it works 95% of the time and I have used a medical O2 reader on my finger at the same time and the results have been almost identical within 2% if not exact. I know it isn’t supposed to substitute medical equipment but does give accurate enough info. The battery life is just fine for a small computer you wear on your wrist. I use the always on display and usually charge when I shower in the morning and when I’m getting ready for bed at night. Charging is fairly quick.Gimmicky stuff like the washing of hands timer and reminders to stand up can be helpful be some.I use a the inbuilt ‘workout’ app and things like ‘Alltrails’ for hikes and ‘Skitracks’ for snowboarding. I do a lot of travelling (when not in perpetual lockdown) and like that Apple maps and google maps work well and even vibrate your wrist when you need to take a turn. It is also convenient to take calls when your hands are full or quickly reply to a text. Its convenient when checking the weather, stocks app, and pinging your phone when you’ve left it somewhere. I use Apple Music and that integrates perfectly and is helpful when you want to select tracks without taking your phone out.The black rubberised band that it came with did irritate my skin a little so I replaced it with a cheap stretchy polyester band and that has definitely helped and works better when you get a sweaty wrist. Maybe if you were to make a purchase I’d look at getting this type of band included so you’re not spending more after.TL;DRGreat for fitness tracking and motivation with some helpful convenient features and apps with some gimmicky ones too. Battery life ok but can be too little for some people. Rubberised band can irritate skin so maybe select a different material. It also tells the time.
