Batman: Ego and Other Tails

Excellent Collection with Great Art
I bought this collection for the "Ego" story because it was highly recommended to me, and if only that one had been really I still would have been happy. As it turned out, all of the stories in this collection were good, and the multipart Catwoman heist story here is better than the current Catwoman comics being published. The art wasn't in the photorealistic or high-definition style that seems to be popular (understandably, as that style is beautiful), but in the heavier lines and muted colors that remind me of Nightwing: Year One. I really like that style in general, and I felt that it fit especially well with the kinds of stories told here. All in all, this book was an excellent collection of short and medium length stories with great art. I very much enjoyed it, and it is something that I would recommend or give to others.

and I wasn't disappointed. Basically the ego part of this story is ...
I happen to come across this comic by chance and decided to give it a go, and I wasn't disappointed. Basically the ego part of this story is Bruce Wayne riddled with guilt over the outcome of his latest mission, in the batcave has a debate about his cause with the personification of batman in his mind. It was a interesting read and anyone who enjoys comics this is an underrated series with mini adventures that are as good. Lastly there is a Catwoman story that kept me on edge as any crime thriller as to the outcome.Fans of frank Miller's dark Knight returns or the batman black and white series will have something to enjoy as well. Enjoy a very underrated comic!

Ego is great, but the rest …
This book is broken up into two parts. Part one is Batman: Ego by Darwyn Cooke, which has great art and story. Cooke wrote and did the artwork on this 70 page tale. The rest (Other Stories) are throw away stories, mostly about Catwoman (130 pages).

This is Why People Read Batman!
This hardcover collect two excellent graphic novels by Darwyn Cooke, Batman: Ego and Catwoman: Selina's Big Score, as well as some short stories also by Mr. Cooke.Batman:Ego was published in 2000 as a 64 page graphic novel, but finally gets the hardcover treatment it deserves, while the Catwoman tale, which was an original hardcover, crops up again in the same format. Both tales feature fast paced writing coupled with a fantastic art style which harkens back to Batman the Animated series (for which Darwin was one of the designers) but with more of a noirish edge, so don't let the streamlined style fool you into thinking these stories are for all ages or too soft. If you liked Mr. Cooke's recent work on the Spirit, this is better. Much better. Some other reviewers on this page commented that this book was a little dissapointing due to the inclusion of a story which does not feature Batman, but don't be dissuaded from picking this one up. Selina's Big Score features one of Batman's oldest villians in one of her greatest appearances, so don't miss out. Give it a chance, then read the collections of Catwoman comics by Ed Brubaker, Cooke and Cameron Stewart, which are some of the best crime comics around.Fans of Richard Stark's Parker will recognize a Parker like Character, named Stark, a heister who helps Catwoman pull of the titular big score which is just as hard nosed (and fun) as any written by Richard Stark during the 60s and 70s. This will serve as a primer to Darwyn's upcoming adaptations of the first four Parker novels, beginning next year. This hardcover is also special because it does not feature the ugly spine design which appears on many of the current DC hardcovers where a DC logo appears at the bottom of the spine in a blue back ground, ruining a book's appearance on the book shelf.Don't miss out on one of the best written and drawn set of Batman stories of the last 20 years; right up there with the Batman classics of the 80s like Year One, DKR and the Killing Joke, at least in my opinion.

EGO rocks! x5
If you can get your hands on this sacred masterpiece, do it!! Ever since Matt Reeves said that book serves as as a major inspiration for The Batman (2022), it has been selling like crazy. It's something that every Batman fan should have, heck it's even for non-fans too! I feel like other best-known graphic novels such as The Killing Joke often overshadow the lesser-known ones like Ego, but this bad boy deserves to own its spot among them. Totally worth the buy, either new or used.

Decent collection from an amazing creator
Ego is an interesting Batman story that is well executed and not quite like anything else I've read. Selina's Big Score is a pretty good Catwoman story too. Other than that, the other issues were too short to make a big impression, other than where Cooke provided the art, which is exceptional throughout the collection. Worth a read for any Batman or Darwyn Cooke fans.

Not a continuation in storyline, but very good.
To be very honest, I am not an immense fan of Darwyn Cooke's art, but still, this is one of the more important short stories in Batman universe. Cooke is old-school, and his art and narrative style all point to the same direction. However, this is not just one story, but a compilation of all of Cooke's work in the Batman universe up to about 2000. Selina's Big Score was a fun read. And Cooke's work with the Batman Black and White universe is always interesting. Overall, a good book, and a necessary one for Batman collectors.

Bellissimo
