I have an 8 year old girl. Is the button easily pushed down?

The umbrella is too heavy for a child. The automatic button allows to close the umbrella but the stalk of the umbrella remaining to pull down(to reduce) requires a lot of strength in arms even for me adult.

How big is the canopy when opened?

Dear Gerald,The dimensions of the product are presented on the 4th picture on our Product Page. The DIAMETER of the canopy when opened - 37 inches.I hope this answers your questions, but feel free to revert for any further details.Best regards,AndrewEEZ-Y

Is the umbrella supposed to lock in place when open? Mine does not and I'm wondering if it is missing part of the mechanism

Dear Customer,Please note that the umbrella canopy should lock in place once the Auto Open button is pressed.
