I thought this would be a cool tool to have for trout fishing, was I wrong. First the cutters barely cut a 2-6 lbs test line. It was easier cutting with my cheap swiss army like scissors. The tool to sharpen got in the way when trying the line to the hook. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but it was difficult to have one tool out to use. The pin to use for the eye hole is too close and can only use on specific types of hooks, forget about lures and tribble hooks. The only nice thing is the bar to hold the hook after tying, that's the one star.Thought it would help with tying the line when I have trouble seeing. Maybe good for other types of fishing or others have better luck with this.

My Dad loves this! He is getting up there in his age and has to use his reading glasses alot to tie his lines but this tool really helped him out. A great gift for any dad who fishs!

Yes, that's the only reason I bought this tool for was the nail knot jig. It makes excellent qualitys knots. I've yet to find a knot that holds better when splicing braid & flouro/mono together that the nail knot splice. It's been used for hundreds of years and for good reason. I use a nail knot in one form another 99 percent of the time. I've pulled 80+ pound cats from the bottom and never had one pull out once it's PROPERLY seated...The nippers are great for mono or flouro but do have a problem with braid, like most nippers.Everthing else is perfectly fine....

After first use in saltwater environment it started to corrode just from handling it while fishing. It is not very well made as parts are very loose and getting looser with each use, and it is too small to easily tie knots on hooks and swivels. I use a lot of circle hooks and it is easier to snell the hook by hand than use this tool. The clippers are good though hence the two stars.

The instructions, if you want to call them instruction, are a series of drawings that make no sense at all printed on a tiny card. Then I saw that the "Made in China" all over the item and packaging. Now I understand the instructions making no sense. I am no longer knowingly buying things made in China. Amazon should be more honest with us about this so back it goes.

This is my third one of these because I keep dropping them in the water lol. These make tying knots a breeze especially when you're using tiny hooks for trout. You simply hold the hook and twist a bunch of times and make a clinch knot. It cuts up to 10 lb line with ease after that it's better to use this just for tying knots and some bigger pliers for bigger line. I have not used it yet for fly fishing but I will later on. Feels well made too which is of course one of the most important aspects.

Being older and having large hands I find it hard to hold small hooks and tackle, while trying to type fishing line to it let alone see the darn holes and lines that need to move. This gadget takes the guesswork out of all that and makes it a breeze to tie hooks, spinners, anything to you line even other lines. Takes a few tries to get tje hang of it, but after that it's a great timesaver and fishermans best friend

Did not come with any instructions, don’t know how to use

I’ve watched the Y.T vids on how to use this “tool.” I think I understand the principle on how it works, but I just can’t get the thing to create the perfect knot on a hook. I just need a simple knot. Complete mess when you try copying the demos from Y.T. You end up with just a messed up “bird’s nest” of a knot. I suspect it’s because I’m wanting to create a knot on a small hook – such as needed in trout fishing. The tool looks like it’s designed for larger hooks. The line clipper – like a nail clipper – is garbage. It’s not sharp and fails to spring back into place. Bahhh humbug.I suppose where this will really shine is in tying two strings together, in such cases as fly fishing. That’s the positive. I also like the hook sharpener attached to it – although I have no idea how to use it.Overall – I would not but this again nor recommend it. It’s a complex tool that comes with very little instruction. You’d have to go online to get to know how to use it. A bad buy if you ask me.

As usual quick Amazon delivery but that's about all I can say positive about these.The clippers are not very sharp and the jaws don't line up evenly.I had high hopes these Would be useful for rig building building but they're not up to the job .I've tried it on 8lb to 18lb both cuts are unsatisfactory.

Simple, compact fishing tool that allows you to tie nail knots with ease, sharpen hooks and clean up fishing eyes on flies that have been over varnished! Throw in a nice zinger for retaining the device and you’ve got a winner! Highly recommend

Not particularly impressive but they do the job. Have to make sure I use a certain part of the cutter, otherwise it doesn't cut! When they need replaced I wont be buying another one of these.

Does what i need it for, knot tying is simple with this, sharpener is good. The clippers are sharp enough.
