Fantastic AV organization!
This worked perfectly to bring some organization to my cabinets. The lower cabinets behind doors were completely open and this fit in there perfectly and made my av equipment look much more professional. This was high quality and easy to assemble. It is also sturdy as a finished product!

Great stereo shelf but get your own hardware if you don't buy the base
The shelf can definitely be used without the base if assembled correctly. My unit didn't come with the bolts and washers to attach the legs - when you read the directions they give you that hardware with the base which I didn't buy. The packaging does say "hardware included" and I agree that's misleading. For a few dollars and some time go get the following bolts and washers from the hardware store and you'll be all set: Four black Phillips head bolts 1/4-20 X 2" and four 6mm flat washers (black if you can find them - otherwise silver is fine as they are covered up by the bolt heads. With the hardware setup the shelf is super sturdy.

Beauitful extension shelf.
I was disappointed with putting together the extension shelf where the legs were suppose to be attached to there was no flat head bolts to install thru the top of the shelf where the inlays were at each corner where the bolts would be put inside so that the bottom of the shelf where the legs would screw in to attach to the shelf so I had to go to home depot to find flat head bolts black to match the color of the legs and table was lucky enough to find what I needed now I am happy but will not buy from them again this is a basic requirement and it was missing if it was a garage sale and I spent 10.00 it would be a bargain.

Excellent customer service! Great product.
Excellent product. I initially was missing a threaded rod in the package, but I contacted Sanus' customer support and was taken care of by Lou, Silviah, and Clark. Excellent products and even better customer service. Highly recommend Sanus if you need strong AV stands with a company that stands behind their product.

Can’t be used as a stand-alone shelf without buying extra washers
Can’t be used as a stand-alone shelf as-is. I had to swing by Lowe’s and buy 8 washers and 4 nuts in order to attach the supplied legs with the supplied bolts in this kit. Otherwise there was so much slack in the legs that the unit would topple over, since I didn’t also buy the base kit.For my scenario, I was just looking for a small 1-shelf unit to add extra gear above a half-height marantz receiver; which was already placed on built-in wall shelving. With an extra $3 in nuts and washers, I was able to make this happen. Just sharing this so others in the same situation are aware of what they are purchasing.

Terrific economy solution
I have been using Sanus Euro Foundation racks and shelves for years now. I love the modular design, and the vibration-friendly MDF shelving. Also the availability of 5" pillars when desirable. I have two racks and two additional amp stands. These are stylish and accommodate a wide variety of amps, DACs, power plants, et al. Incidentally, third-part vibration control (sorbothane footers, pucks, etc. etc.) under each piece of kit absolutely does help. The only problem I've ever had is that about 40% of the time a shelf may arrive with a ding in the edge that reveals the MDF material beneath the very nice black satin finish. You can't tell it's been damaged by examining the packing material -- so it's possible that the ding happens at any point in the packaging or shipping process. In any case, I decided long ago that it's easier and quicker to repaint the ding than return the shelf, especially since the replacement unit is almost equally as likely to sport a ding of some sort.Works for me. Your mileage may vary.

Single Stand for Receiver
I used this on my dresser to put my receiver under (mainly to keep the cat off of it), then put a center channel speaker on top. It's not designed for use by itself, doesn't come with the hardware (bolts to attach legs and feet for the legs). I went over to my local hardware store and picked up 4 bolts that fit perfectly and 4 furniture feet that also screwed right into the legs for less than $10. It's a pretty good size for covering the receiver, maybe a bit bigger than I wanted, but the center channel now fits on top perfectly and is a good height for sound (TV is wall mounted right above it).
