The King of Queens: Season 1

The King of Queens is the first television series I have purchased on DVD. I had seen a few episodes of the show, and actually bought it because I think it's funny and yet I have not already seen every episode. I was expecting a few laughs, but this series is terrific, and it's a wonderful discovery!The best thing about this collection is that the episodes can be watched several times, and they only get funnier. When there is nothing on TV (all the time), we will pop in one of these DVDs and laugh ourselves silly.In addition, the DVDs come with some good special features -- a few bonus episodes and some extra commentary.Compared to more recent episodes of the show, the first season is funnier. Carrie is meaner in the newer episodes, and Arthur Spooner shows up a lot less.My favorite episode from this collection is Carrie's birthday episode, in which Doug throws a party together for her at the last minute. I think I've watched that episode thirty times by now. "I've just written myself into a corner" has become part of my vernacular.There are lots of great episodes in this collection, and each of them is a laugh riot.

this dvd set is going to live in your dvd player because you will never stop watching it. I havent noticed anything wrong with the picture/audio like others have mentioned. great 1st season to a incredible show. the dvd includes 2 extra episodes, one from season 2 and the other which im not sure of but the episodes are the ones when doug staples his b*lls to his shorts and the other is when Lou Ferrigno moves in next door during christmas.

Purchased the 1st Season of King of Queens. My husband and I LOVE to watch this episode reminds us of our lives. The picture quality of the DVD is excellent, as is the sound. Love the fact NO COMMERCIALS. Packaging is good and the CD's are well protected.Can't wait to watch Season 2 and 3 that I purchased as well. Definatly worth the money if you are a fan.

I live in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and I purchased a DVD set of the first season of the American comedy King of Queens. However, on inserting the DVD into the player, a note came up saying the dvd was not authorised for this region. I am now trying to track down a code through Toshiba (the make of the DVD) to "open zone" it. If anybody can assist me in this it would be much appreciated.TksNeale Emslie

This series' first season got off to a bit of a rocky start but like so many of the CBS sit-coms, it grows on you. The transfer quality of this DVD set wasn't exactly stellar but that doesn't take away from the hilarity. While this season doesn't have quite as many laughs as #2 and #3 for example, James, Reminii and Stiller hold it together and by the last few season episodes it seems most have come to either love it or hate it. I watched it when it was originally on TV, and I fell into the former category. Give it a try!

It is funny that the first two episodes they show Carrie's sister. After that there is no mention of her and she just fades into the horizon. A lot of shows have disapearring characters. In the first season a lot of things are being worked out. The humor is still all there.

One of my favorite TV series, right up there with Seinfeld (almost). Watch the show everyday on TV and ended up buying the complete series box set.Very funny. Give it a try if you've never seen it.

Eine Serie, die einmalig in ihrer Art ist!Es ist einfach erzählt, es geht um ein Ehepaar, Doug (Nein nicht Donald Doug)und seine Frau Carrie. Doug ist ein bisschen zu Jurassic, das eine oder andere Tönnchen Speck zu viel auf den Rippen.Das hindert ihn aber nicht daran weiter zu fressen.Wenn er keinen Grund dazu hat, dann bastelt er sich eben einen selba. Er ist ein guter Bastler, ein Bastler vor dem Herrn. Auch wenn es noch so abwegig ist, nicht ein, sondern „DER GRUND“ muss her. Seine Fress-Sucht hindert ihn aber nicht daran, dann und wann einmal seine eher unterernährte Frau zu kritisieren, dass sie zu viel auf den Rippen hat!Da fragt man sich „Wie kommt der Vogel an solch eine Frau?“. Das wird am Anfang eindrucksvoll geschildert. Carrie hat einen Macho-Typen, einen beinharten Türsteher geheiratet und einen Fahrer beim Paketdienst bekommen, zu dem er mutiert ist (zum Fahrer, nicht zum Paketdienst ist er mutiert)!Herrlich auch die Art, wie er den Job bekommen hat. Der ist dort einfach aufgetaucht um nur so zu tun, als ob er den Job hat. Immer wieder hatte er Carrie belogen bis zu dem verhängnisvollen Tag als sie ihn unbedingt auf Arbeit fahren wollte. Da konnte er nicht anders, musste mit und dort aussteigen. Sie beobachtete ihn genau und er musste da rein.Weil er schon mal da war hat er den Laden kräftig auf gemischt.Voll abgefahren, als er mit dem Stapler im Lager alles schrottet. Der Chef wollte ihn rausschmeißen, aber Doug erklärte ihm, dass er ihm nicht kündigen kann, weil er nicht hier arbeitet. Das war aber irgendwie peinlich. So bekam Doug den Job, der eben erst durch die Kündigung (die keine war) frei wurde!Ihr Leben ist eigentlich in Ordnung bis zu dem Tag als Carries durchgeknallter Vater Arthur beschlossen hat aus Versehen sein Lieblingshaus ab zu fackeln. Da steht er plötzlich mit Carries Schwester und seiner Lieblingskochplatte, die den Kurzschluss verursachte (die Herdplatte, net die Schwester) aber welch ein Glück, sie hat den Brand überlebt!Also muss Doug kampflos das Feld überlassen, seinen Hobbyraum im Keller aufgeben, damit Arthur dort einziehen kann. Vorbei die Zeiten in denen er sich lecker mit seinen Freunden im Keller treffen konnte um am Großbildfernseher ein Spiel sich reinzuziehn!Doug verkörpert so ziemlich alle Schwächen, die es nur gibt. Arthur ebenso. Doug is liebenswürdig, Arthur dagegen ein richtiger Psychopath, der alles auf den Kopf stellt. Auch aus einfachen Begebenheiten konstruiert Arthur ein heilloses Chaos und durcheinander. Es endet immer im Gebrülle, Arthur führt sich auf wie ein kleines Gör, dass unbedingt haben möchte was es will. Bekommt das Gör nicht seinen Willen, dann wird randaliert ohne Ende. Nur setzt Arthur hier noch einen oben drauf, denn er ist nie zufrieden. Auch wenn er bekommen hat, was er wollte, dann ist immer noch nicht Ruhe!Arthur dringt in ihr Leben ein und ist plötzlich überall präsent. Auch ihre Freunde sind nicht vor ihm sicher. Sogar auf Arbeit ist der alte Zausel präsent, nichts und niemand ist vor ihm sicher!Das wiederkehrende Haupt-Thema ist immer wieder, das der arme Kerl wie ein Hund im Keller hausen muss. Nichts zu sehen von Dankbarkeit, dass sie ihn aufgenommen haben.Es ist kalt, düster, zu dunkel, kein Klo, kein Fenster usw.An allem hat er was auszusetzen. Wenn es keine Problem gibt, dann macht er welche um sich danach darüber zu beschweren!Carrie geht sogar soweit, dass sie einer Hundesitterin Geld dafür gibt, damit sie mit Arthur Gassi geht. So wird die Ärmste mit einem alten Psycho abgestraft, herrlich skurril das Ganze. Irgendwie ist in dieser Serie niemand normal, auf jeden Fall nicht der Regel entsprechend!Egal ob die Nachbarn oder Arbeitskollegen, Dougs Cousins, die ham alle irgendwie einen Hau wech und das ist auch gut so. Daraus entstehen die abgefahrensten Episoden!Langeweile kommt hier nie auf. Die lernen einem gehörig das Staunen. Der Zuschauer wird in ganz neuen Dimensionen des Fremdschämens eingewiesen!Herrlich als Carrie ihm offenbart, dass sie geplant hat sich Implantate einsetzen zu lassen. Er ist hellauf begeistert, denn da steht er voll drauf und seine Frau hat eh zu wenig zu bieten. Doch seine Begeisterung flacht sehr schnell ab als es sich heraus stellt, dass es sich um Wadenimplantate handelt!Für mich die beste Serie aller Zeiten in dieser Art, herrlich in jeder Beziehung. Die kann man sich immer wieder anschaun!Die typisch amerikanische Lebensweise wird hier gehörig auf die Schippe genommen.„KAMPF DEM SCHÖNHEITSWAHN UND DER BÜRGERLICHEN NORMALITÄT“

cette série est extrêmement drôle...Les réparties entre doug et sa femme font mouche à chaque seconde...La série relativise l'état de beauf et lui donne sa grandeur grâce à un humour et une dérision des soucis quotidiens jamais égalée.Quant au DVD il est malheureusement dépourvu de bonus...La série est cependant si drôle que le DVD seul vaut largement le coup...
