Wald139 Front Bicycle Basket (18 x 13 x 6, Black)

This reveiw is for the Wald 139 Front Bicycle Basket (18 x 13 x 6, Black). This is a well made and sturdy basket. Once attached, it is stable and does not flex or bend. It carries quite a bit yet still stays stiff. It was easy to attach to my cruiser with the included hardware. The powder coating seems to be fairly thick, more than just a simple layer of paint color. I tried scratching at it with a key (not too hard). It did make a mark but didn't get to bare metal right away, so it should wear well. I expect this basket to hold up well to normal rated use.This basket does add noticeable weight to the front of the bike even when empty, but that's to be expected with a basket of this size & wire thickness. Keep that in mind if you're a weight-conscious cyclist. The weight not only affects steering balance, but also affects balance while parked. I had to fiddle with my bike to get it to balance while parked, as the extra weight makes the front wheel want to pivot more than usual. I may need to adjust my kickstand so the bike doesn't lean as much and stays more upright. At the moment, I try to find something to lean my bike against when I park it.This basket will hold a heavier load than I am willing to carry, because my steering gets too unstable with a full load. This is a driver problem, not a basket problem. I had a bit of a learning curve getting the hang of things with extra weight over the front wheel. Someone younger and stronger than me will probably do better. So far I have enjoyed bringing groceries home with this basket, instead of using a backpack and giant tote bags hanging off both shoulders. I still use the backpack, but despite the extra weight up front it is easier to ride than having swaying tote bags sliding off my shoulders.The measurements in the listing are the top edge of the basket. The sides have a taper or angle to them, so the inside bottom measure is smaller. The basket base measures about 15.5 inches by 10.5 inches. This may be important if you need something to sit flat against the bottom.The price/quality ratio makes this an excellent choice. Overall I am very happy with this basket, and will gladly consider Wald products for future purchase.

Basket is a basket and its solid but the Bells Bike Shop is the real deal. Basket was missing a part no fault of the shop. They responded to my message on the weekend and had the part on its way on a monday. Thank you guys

I was looking for a basket to attach to my beach cruiser to take my dog with me places. She always wants to go to the park and swim in the pond and chase the ducks but I don't have a car and by the time we get there she has walked so much she's tired and doesn't play as hard. I have a standard 12 lbs dachshund so after about and hour she starts to get tired ad it takes about 45 to get the the park. Anyway she fits great with a blanket in there to keep her comfy. After reading all the reviews on this I was kind of skeptical because it said it wasn't that deep and things tend to fall out but when I opened the box I was surprised to find out it was the perfect size for my little dog and was deep enough she wouldn't fall out but could still see. I even put my 25 lbs boxer dachshund mix in there and it held him although it was hard to turn the bike with him in it. Overall I think this is a great cheaper substitution to an actual dog basket. My dachshund isn't so enthusiastic about the rides but she'll get use to it( she's starting to already) I'm glad I purchases this one instead of a bigger one. Ps even though it says large its more of a medium.UPDATE:I've had this basket for a couple months now and still really enjoy it. It's great for carrying things such as groceries or my purse when I just go out for quick rides. I bought this as you know for my 12 lbs dachshund. After using it for awhile now I wish it was just a tad bit bigger (as in wider not deeper) because now that my little dog loves to go for rides(she gets so excited she starts to whine and tries to jump in haha) she also like to try and take naps while riding. She would prefer to curl up in a ball but instead is forced to kinda squish her self in to lay down. However I still think this makes a wonderful substitution to a real dog basket. It's much sturdier and I don't have to worry about her falling out of the basket it not being able to support her weight.
