THE BRO CODE IS HERE TO TAKE YOU BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA AND WATTPAD DAYS!
Thank you to Elizabeth Seibert, Wattpad Books, and Favourite Pages Book Club for sending me an advance copy of this book to read and review."No matter how much I resented my parents for being Muggles, it wouldn’t change the fact that if I ever went to Hogwarts, I’d probably be expelled for exclusively playing Quidditch and not studying. Ever."With fall around, this YA rom-com was exactly what I was looking for! Taking place in fall, the three bros Nick, Austen, and Carter are determined to make the most of the year and continue following their holy bible, The Bro Code. However, things take a dramatic turn when Nick (who is completely swoon-worthy btw) ends up falling for his best friend sister, Eliza O’ Connor, and breaking the most sacred law of The Bro Code. Now, Nick has to choose between his best friend and Eliza, and following the bro code is doing more damage than breaking it."She thought I might push her too far. That I might ridicule her to save face. That my masculinity mattered more to me than her safety."Nick is your dream guy. Hot, handsome, good in sports and has the superpower of being humorous. Other than that, he will be willing to listen to you and change his views according to what’s right. Eliza is the smart, goofy girl with an amazing personality who stands up for what’s right and lights up the whole room just by being there. The chemistry between these two characters is so strong, you can’t help but ship them. The book will take you back to the days of high school when the world wasn’t dying because of a global pandemic. It’s sweet, romantic, a little cliché, and perfect for when you’re not in a good mood because this will have you laughing out loud and instantly put you in a good mood! I found it a little predictable but I find most YA romcoms predictable so I’m going to give this book a 5-star rating.

Updated & Ready for action romance to sweep you off your feet
Man, this book took me back! I initially read through when it was being updated chapter to chapter on Wattpad. I enjoyed it back then and was excited to see what Seibert did to the story when it was published. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! This book is written entirely from the perspective of star soccer player Nick Maguire, and the comedy hidden throughout is hilarious. I often found myself turning to my boyfriend and asking "Wait are teenage boys actually like this?" Now we're most definitely planning on having a water gun battle that would be the envy of Nick and Carter. While this book still has some "Wattpad" tendencies, it's clear that Seibert's writing has evolved in a wonderful way, and I'm definitely excited for what she will produce next.

Rewriting the Code
I sank right into the world of the Bro Code, and found myself thinking back to my own high school days (which looked pretty much nothing like Nick, Carter, Austin, and Eliza's, by the way, other than the fact that I also did sports...) and friendships from back then. Seibert builds such a believable bond between the Bros. Their code of rules may seem a little cliche, but they involve some of the most ridiculous things (like "a bro shalt not skip ab workouts" or "a bro shalt not back down from spicy foods") along with the more "traditional" "rules" from bro culture. But ultimately, she shapes a world where bros can learn from their mistakes, talk about them, and examine their own toxic masculinity. It's a light enough story that touches on some pretty serious topics, too. She does a very good job at tackling them head on and not skirting around them.

So hard to finish
Maybe I passed the phrase of high school romances, but this book was difficult to continue

Cute Rom Com Touching On Tough Topics
Elizabeth Seibert seamlessly incorporates a strong stance against sexism within a cute rom com narrated by your typical high school jock that falls for his best friend's sister. While touching on topics such as toxic masculinity, while utilizing an incredible amount of satire, you won't want to put this book down!

Rom-com with social commentary
I loved this book! It took me back to when I was in high school, and the "bro" voice worked well to both add a comedic effect and let readers glimpse the social pressures that "bro-culture" can have on high school teens. The relationship between Nick and Eliza was just what I hoped it would be, fluffy with some drama that made me hold my breath, and I loved how (no spoilers) they acted at the end of the book. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants a refreshing, YA read, or any young readers who are looking for a fun romantic comedy.
