Most important piece of campaigning. Excellent Piece

I bought this for emergency use - earthquake, power outages, etc. It is identical to the mess kit(s) I used in the late 60's, except it is clean and unscarred from use. It's great for cooking and eating and you can find other uses, I'm sure. It works on propane stoves, sterno stoves, esbit stoves and probably a campfire as well. I had an old one in the garage with my emergency stuff, but it was getting cruddy - spent a bit of time cleaning that one up, but decided I needed another for the family. Got this one for a modest price.The lower part has a long handle and the upper half is smaller and divided into two containers - works well to cook as well as eat - easy to clean (a "scrubby" pad is a great addition to the set). Why re-invent the wheel, I learned how to use it in the Army so many years ago, I've demo'd it for my son and he's happy about how well it works. Good quality stainless Steel, not that soft aluminum stuff like so many of those new "Glamping" (glamour camping) kits. Definitely recommend it - a little heavier to schlep around than aluminum, but I don't go out camping anymore, it's for EMERGENCY use, and my old one is over 60 years old. and is still earning it's keep. Plus, you can store your utensils inside it, straws and small stuff too.

For those of you who are trying to avoid "China made" products. Good luck with that. I have discovered that while there are a lot of items that are made in China which are indeed low quality - "Made in China" does not necessarily always equate with cheap junk. This item is Made in China. It looks to be quite a tough piece of gear.The original mess kit is made in heavy duty aluminum. This one is made in stainless steel. It is not cheap, junky, thin walled stainless steel either. It has some firmness to it. Of course if you press it hard enough, it will bend. But you will need to press pretty hard.This is a great camping item. The long handle makes it easy to cook with, the size is great for an adult portioned meal. For around $15 dollars and seeing how this one is made, I would go with this over the aluminum one! I bought two!

We used this when camping out of state recently. Used the plate for a lid so things heated up more quickly. Works great. Did get a bit blackened over a fire but we washed off what we could then wrapped in a towel for packing. Packs small and can fit a small sponge & silverware that breaks into 2 pieces. Looking forward to using it again this weekend. We will be hiking with it in our pack so it’s nice that it is so lightweight.

Very small in size and very thin material, plus made in China, and i went for it just to safe a couple dollars but I will need to buy it somewhere else from a real maker.
