This is so nice. Anyone who is a real HAGGARD fan needs this .It's beautiful, and so many songs that I've never heard before. I've been trying to get them all. and this helps a lot. This is well worth the money. I love and miss MERLE HAGGARD so much.

I am totally blown away by the quality of the presentation of this box set-you may see me cut and paste this exact praise, as after buying one Bear Family box set I went nuts and bought several more. A good tip- check the used section here, but in almost half the cases amazon had new and sealed for LESS than many sellers did for used.

I love Merle Haggard, and the new music played today isn't country music. Also, I knew Delbert Smart and he plays on some of Merle's early music. The only thing that would make it better is if it was on vinyl, it last a lot longer than discs. He has provided me with years of enjoyment. Songwriter, awesome voice, and plays the fiddle and guitar. Not many other artist can claim this feat.

This huge set of Merle's music pretty much sums up what he recorded in the 1960's during his contracts with Capitol and Tally. It stops at around mid 1969 and those recordings are picked up on the next Bear Family Box set, "The Studio Recordings". Anyways, I purchased this for around $50.00 on Ebay, so my judgement on it being worth the price is probably quite skewed. The music is absolutely essential, and the Hag didn't have much of a dry period until he moved to MCA in the late 70's (Except for the Bonnie Owens duet numbers, take those for what you want). The sound is fine and balanced, you get a good booklet with some snazzy photographs of the Hag and his Band, and you get a good discography of the songs herein. Even if you still pay the full price, I would consider it cheaper than trying to find each of the albums presented here that are repackaged as Two-fers, or the unreleased songs which have never made another appearance than this box set. In short, buy it, but shop around.

This, in my opinion, is a true masterpiece. Mr. Hagg is truly the all time great song writers and singers in the history of country music. I thoroughly enjoy this fantastic set featuring all Merle's early works. Highly, highly recommended!
