Carhartt Men's Base Force Classic Thermal Base Layer Union Suit

There are two different styles here
Whats most important to know about ordering these is that selecting a different color selects a different style and therefore a totally different garment. The red union suit has buttons and a slit in the back, is made with heavyweight cotton, and has close fitting cuffs and ankles. The black union suits are made of lightweight, waffle type cotton and polyester, (like the older style two piece thermal underwear), have snap button closures, do not fit snugly around the cuffs or ankles like the red style, and in the back have a separation of the union suit with an elastic band that allows you to tuck in the upper piece. More on this below. The red, heavier weight cotton version I find to be extremely comfortable, very warm in cold weather, and overall more comfortable than the black style. The ankle and cuff closure are thick and elastic and make putting on clothes less aggravating as they hold the sleeves and legs from riding up as you are getting dressed. They are more suited for colder weather than the black style and DO have a flap in the back for those who would use it. They wick moisture away and I find them to be the most comfortable of the two styles. The black style is more suited for milder cold weather. I like the snap style buttons better on these but thats where it ends. As one reviewer stated about the buttons on the other style, they sometimes are not the right size and need to either be replaced or have someone sew up the button hole as they come unbuttoned. But most annoying of the black style is the rear separation of the upper and lower with the elastic band. (Look at the pictures provided by Amazon) It is like it is a one piece in the front and a two piece in the back. Plus it is impossible to use the bathroom without taking them off on the top and that makes them inconvenient. I find that if it is anything below freezing they are too lightweight and if it is above 50 F they feel uncomfortable as they don’t wick moisture away as easily.Carhartt is known for durable, long lasting clothing and the red style is in line with their usual quality. I bought the red style first and love them. I mistakenly bought the black style thinking they were just like the red style and I never wear them unless it is mild or my red ones are dirty. I DO wish the red style had the snap closure, but beyond that I love them. Look at the pictures provided by Amazon carefully and you will see the difference in the two styles. It is misleading to most and I wasted my money on the black style.

The Perfect Fit and Weight
I've never had a union suit before, so I didn't have anything to compare these to exactly, but I have owned thermal underwear and I am a fan of Carhartt's products. The quality of Carhartt is always seen in their products, and the union suit is no exception. The seems are sewn up in Carhartt's traditional fashion with multi-stitching to ensure that they do not come undone. The cuffs are perfect because they are not like usual cuffs that you may see on a coat, jacket, or hoodie. The cuffs are almost twice as long as you would traditionally think, and this is perfect because they allow other clothing to easy slide down your arms and up your legs without the union suit bunching up underneath. The most interesting thing I found about the union suit was the button-up system. It was well thought out and works rather well. The buttons allow you to unbutton all the way down to the crotch area. This makes it extremely easy to get in and out of the union suit. The spacing of the buttons is well planned out as well because there are just enough to ensure that it doesn't leave any area uncovered, but not too many to be a nuisance to unbutton. Additionally, they even thought out using the restroom for a number two because there is even a button in the rear if that situation ever arises.Again, without knowing what to expect with an all in one kind of underwear, I really enjoy the comfort and warmth these provide while I'm working outside in the freezing cold. The mid-weight cotton design is perfect for the freezing cold weather, and works perfectly with my normal clothes and other cold weather gear such as coats and bibs. They are thinner so your layers aren't too thick and cause you not to be able to move when you bundle up. Additionally, they provide extra length in your arms and legs. I really enjoy this because I don't have to worry about stretching out and not being able to move or causing the sleeves or legs to pull up on my arms and legs.

Amazing buy this one!!
I love this onesie!! it is reversible which i don’t think is mentioned. it has snap clasps which are beautiful, accessible, and easy to use. the butt flap is also awesome because it is just an elastic at the back of the waist that you tuck the top fabric into. it’s way more flattering to my ass-ets than other union suits which make you look a little like a baby with a loaded diaper. other union suits also have buttons at the butt that i think are difficult to fasten, but this is very easy, quick and accessible. I am 5’5 120lb and the Small fits me very well, there is no excess at my ankles. My arms and chest are pretty small, so it’s a little looser at the top than at the legs, but in the way that I personally want a sleeping shirt to be. It’s tightest around my thighs and very loose at the calves, ljke pajama pants. basically it fits and feels like pajamas but the shirt and pants are attached. The waffle is soft and wonderfully textured, and warm. definitely recommend this to people looking for cold season layers or sleepwear. carhartt does it right, once again!!!

Hard to get unfolded
All in the rate 4/5 their good for mild cold weather I’d say up to -12 max but make sure you put on 1 or more shirts on after or they don’t work, the sweat wicking actually works you’ll sweat and it’ll be wet for 5 mins then it will be gone and no smell 4/5
