Dark Funeral: Attera Orbis Terrarum 2 [DVD]

Exactly the same as Attera Pt. 1
You are buying the exact same dvd as Pt 1. No different songs, just at different venues. Its made of bs plastic so if u drop it or toy with it the slighest expect it to break. Same old Dark Funeral, they can't offer anything new to us visually/audibly, don't expect to hear some of their best songs performed live ever (Final Ritual, Heart of Ice, etc)its the same songs again and again, barely even in a different order.

YET MORE DARK FUNERAL !!!!!!!
Well, where to start ? Maybe by saying I'm not a die-hard fan of the band, but of black metal in general. I was given this since I already owned the first part of this series, that is to say Attera part 1. I never came around to buying this installment because I thought it would be repetitive seeing as it is that most of the pro-shot material dates from 2005-06 and the setlists are very similar and in some cases identical.Thanx Satan I didn't buy this one, not because of the aforementioned -which turned out irrelevant- but because of some quality issues I will address later on.The 2Xdvd set is beautifully presented in a translucent box with a nice, glossy and thick booklet amidst the two discs, and a wonderfully satanic cover art. OK, the material could have easily fitted a DVD9 but instead we are treated to a 2 DVD5 set,a common practice nowadays that ¨inflates¨ the products visually. This was filmed during the southamerican leg of their 2006 world tour; two gigs were pro-shot with 5 and 6 cameras respectively, and the direction, editing and visual quality could not have been better IMHO. Best bang for the buck there. The performance is amazingly energetic; this band's been around for a long time. esp, the singer. DVD 1 is their Buenos Aires-Argentina gig and shows them playing to a packed, huge theater with a quite big stage and they play relentlessly for 65'with quite a lot of in-between-songs banter and BTW this was the first time I saw a black metal singer smile back in response to the reaction of the crowd, which is OTT enthusiastic. Now to the downside. The sound mix, despite being mega-loud PCM 2.0 stereo is not very good on the first disc. For the one part both gigs have one guitar way louder than the other one on their respective channel, which results in a much louder right or left channel, something I find very annoying and paradoxically made me switch the whole thing to mono for an even listening experience. It did work but then Lord Caligula's shrieking vocals were louder than everything else; now if I wanted to hear the instruments at a realistic level (guitars are too low in the mix anyway) I had to put up with deafening vocals. Halfways through the sets the sound improves somewhat like someone had realized the problem and tweaked some knobs......huhmm. Little bottom end too, you will have to crank your sub or tone control considerably.Second disc is their Sao Paulo-Brazil gig, similar setlist except for 2 songs and no pre-recorded intro this time. The y play a much smaller, darker stage and the pic is grainier and has a lot of superimposed shots and artificial ageing of the picture I liked but many will hate. Same duration, same responsive crowd. Picture is 4:3 and sound is dolby digital on this one an despite that and the fact that the guitar imbalance is still present -now to the other channel !- the mix is much nicer; more bottom end and the vox is lower in the mix. Slightly longer and better setlistThe band is so tight it squeaks. Loved the bass player; he can be clearly heard throughout the whole concert, not a common occurence in this style BTW.Both discs are packed with ¨fan footage¨ extras that are pointless to me because of their lack of sonic quality. No interviews at all either, how come ?! Not at the same level at say that of Gorgorth's or latest Marduk's dvds but good enough.A nice item to add to your collection but part 1 is a much better product. If not for the sound issues I would have easily rated it a 5.
