Avalon Hill Flat Top Board Game

i have been playing this game for the last 30 years on a regular basis. that is, when i am not traveling or snowed in. there isn't enough space to fully describe this game and its complexities. 5 scenarios which are actual order of battle scenarios that depict the 5 major naval battles of Guadalcanal. there are tricks and turns at every turn. over 40 pages of rules, with many subtleties and complexity. the biggest one to tackle is that there are nearly 1000 counters for this game. each airplane and ship has actual combat, damage and range values. but the trick is until you discover them, they aren't on the board. with a huge map, one quickly realizes the immense distances that had to be covered by observation planes and ships to find their targets. the weather plays its role in complicating things even more, not to mention darkness.if you are interested in these particular naval battles this one's for you, nothing better. my playing partner and i just spend 17 months playing scenario 2, playing on the average 2-3 hrs a session once a week. it boggles the mind. do you want to play it according to history (if you know it) or do you want to completely change history. here's your chance to try both. the game also proves one of warfare's first lesson. after the first shot is fired, the game plan changes....every time.worth the price, the effort and the time. if board gaming is your thing and WW2 naval battle of interest, there is nothing better or more challenging. i only wish there was a computer version of it.
