Beautiful book !
The D'Aulaires illustrate their books in vivid colors and the text is appropriate for a variety of ages. After a visit to Abe Lincoln's New Salem Village park I got this book for grand-children 6 and 8 and 4 and 5. The oldest can read it himself and to his sister. The younger ones enjoy the pictures and talking to a parent about what's happening -- and what they remember . . .

Perfect for little patriots
Great book, for kids and adults alike. The story is written in a simple, straight-forward way that engages the youngest child to adult. My parents took turns reading it to my three year old daughter and she sat through the entire book (it’s quite a long book)! I really wanted to introduce my children to one of America’s greatest presidents as early as possible and this book does the job in a way that’s very accessible to children. I think the authors did justice to a such a compelling and inspirational American statesman.

wonderful book for the family library
I'm so glad the Beautiful Feet Company was able to bring this book and others by the same authors back into circulation. This is a wonderful story and an excellent way to teach your children history. I love the character values all of the D'Aulaire books instill in the reader. The illustrations are beautiful. I have enjoyed these books as much as my children and they will be given a very special spot on the shelves of our family library.

The struggle for liberty and justice is ongoing.
As a child I loved this book, Abraham Lincoln, and read it to my children and grandchildren. I think it needs an Epilogue now explaining the onging struggle for Civil Rights and how people of good will need to continue working to achieve "liberty and justice for all,"

I like the book
I'm reading this book with my daughter as part of her U.S. History lessons (she's 5) and she really enjoys it. I like the book, I think it's well written for younger children... The only things I take exception with are:a) the use of the word "Negro," andb) the way that Black people are drawn caricature-esque in the book.I understand that the word is "appropriate" considering the time that it was written, and I'm familiar with the way that African Americans have been depicted in mainstream art and culture through the years, so I'm not SURPRISED, but I think it is worth noting.

We love this book!
My kids are 6 and 3 and we love this book ( normally takes us two sittings to finish). The pictures are so good and the stories of Lincoln are ones my kids remember.
