Electric Pencil Sharpener with Adjustable Sharpness for Standard and Colored Pencils, Artists, Black

Back to school time for the kiddies means pencils... lots of pencils. I purchased this item at full price, without a request from the seller to review it.I was staring down the barrel of 16 boxes of 12 Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencils, for the school year and did not relish the idea of using my old hand-crank sharpener, so i purchased this ESP 500 sharpener by Evergreen Art. The package arrived as ive come to expect from Amazon - exactly on schedule and undamaged. The option for multiple power sources is fantastic. Sharpener works extremely well - puts a nice fine point and stops grinding once the pencil is fully sharpened. The sawdust catch is ample and easy to empty.Since i had some time on my hands i figured i'd put this thing to the test. I loaded it with 4 AA Amazon Basic batteries and went to work and heres what i found:- Motor and blades - chews through pencils as you'd expect. One out of every 10 or so pencils would jam the blades slightly, which seemed to be a woodgrain consistency issue more than an issue with the sharpener. Eventually the motor powers through and never fully stops; just slows down a bit.- Sawdust catch was ample, needing to be emptied every 40-45 pencils. Catch was simple to open and empty.- Sharpness settings - work exactly as described in the description - goes from needle-sharp to a nice dull point for shading etc- Battery longevity - I ran out of pencils at 192 and the batteries showed no signs of wearing down. I cant speak to the total life of batteries but one set should last a LONG time for normal household/classroom usageAll in all i give this device 5 stars. Im not sure what more you could ask for at this price...

Satisfied customer.Updated review as of 05/19/2017: It's 3 months after I started using the Evergreen Pencil Sharpener. It's just okay. At least it worked great for 3 months. But now, it doesn't sharpen pencils as it used to. So from previously 5 stars, I rate it 3 stars after 3 months. Note that this is being used by only one middle schooler, not a group of kids. If you want an Okay sharpener, then this will do.Feb 2017: Prompt delivery. Product as described. Just what I needed. Functional, convenient, easy to use, produced evenly sharpened pencils and colored pencils, space saver, not bulky. It has three different settings for sharpness. I notice that pencils and colored pencils I sharpen with the Evergreen Sharpener do not break, unlike other brand sharpeners I have used before. Very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recommended.

I use colored pencils for a number of things (bullet journal, art projects, crafting) and am constantly needing to sharpen them. The hand pencil sharpened takes too long and the manual sharpeners are for the birds at this point. None of those work.I purchased this sharpener primarily because it was battery operated. Happy to report that it works GREAT. Even though it is battery operated, it puts out plenty of power to sharpen pencils. It is also very quick. You only need your pencil in there for a couple seconds and it is done. The reservoir that catches the shavings is a pretty good size and is easy to empty when you need to. It also stays put when I sharpen something. No skittering off the counter with this sharpener.A really great feature is the adjustable tip setting on the side where you can choose from three different types of tips. This feature does indeed work as advertised. In fact, the sharp setting is extremely sharp and most people will probably be happy with the medium setting.

The pencil sharpener came on time. I set it up and put it to work immediately. It sharpens quickly and well. I tired it out on some Prismacolor Premier color pencils, since they are notorious for breakage problems. So far no breaking whatsoever. After sharpening a few more pencils (including Faber-Castell Polychromos), I find that the best way for me to sharpen them is to sharpen them a little at a time(like in spurts), since there is not autostop. That way I can get the sharpness and point I want. The switch on the side goes from dull to partly-dull to sharp. I find it's best to test it out, at each position, so that you know what you'll get at each setting. Once you know what to expect, then choose your setting and go for it!The 3-way power hookups is great. You can use batteries within the sharpener, or the cable to connects via USB to a computer or to a wall AC outlet.. It doesn't get more convenient than that. This sharpener is light, compact, but powerful and relatively quiet.Recommended.

I recently bought a large pack of colored art pencils since I wanted to try out the new coloring books. I no longer had an electric pencil sharpener and there was no way I was going to use my little manual one. After reading the reviews I chose the Evergreen Art Supply Electric Pencil Sharpener. I had no problem sharpening the 48 pencils. I am still working on the adjustment for getting the right sharpness. There is no auto stop at the adjustment chosen. You just have to listen for it to slow down and pull out the pencil. I am just impressed that I could sharpen all those pencils in a short amount of time. Emptying the shavings is super easy and I would suggest doing it over the trash container. I really like that I can keep it plugged in but if I decide to take it somewhere I can pop in batteries. There is also a way to use it with USB. I might add that I was only interested in reviews by consumers who were NOT given any incentives to try the product. I bought this myself and am pleased with the product.

I have had this product for awhile now and it is better than I expected. I use it mainly for sharpening my art pencils. I was worried about the sharpener wrecking my art pencils but I have had no issues. It gives a great point for drawing without having to sharpen for any length of time and is small enough for travel as I drag it around with me. I love that it has the 3 power sources which was a buying feature for me and no issues with any of the power supply when sharpening. I would buy this item again hands down. Shipping was fast and the company was good to deal with.
