I'm not sure if this has been used yet as I've bought a few different soaps for my parents to try since theirs was discontinued. It looks like it would be a nice one.

While I have been been wet shaving off and on with a double edge safety razor for the past decade and been happy with an inexpensive VH brand shave soap and boar's brush, I recently made the switch to traditional straight razor and a fine silvertip badger brush. When I exhausted the last of my VH soap, I started my search for a new soap to enhance my shaving experience. My first experience with an "old fashioned barbershop" soap was less than satisfactory where as no matter what method I tried, I could not produce the proper lather consistency and as a result of unsuccessfully trying different methods, I depleted the entire puck in a months time. My second experiment was with this soap. On a positive note, it is possible to generate an effective lather loading very little soap on the badger brush. Also, the aroma of this soap may be appealing to others, however if I were to purchase GBS again, I would likely choose either a lavender or sandlewood whereas the bay rum fregerance is not personally appealing. Fortunately, the sent does not linger after rinsing at the end of the shave. It also leaves your skin soft and doesn't cause irritation. The only negative is that the lather is not as long lasting as even the less expensive VH brand soap I had become accustomed to using with my DE razor and dries quickly requiring reapplication throughout the slower shaving process with a straight razor. I suspect that I would be able to complete a quicker shave with my DE on a single application per each pass. That being the case I continued my search for the perfect shave soap and recently found for $14.99 on Amazon another brand (HC) that while more price is far superior in both leather and fregerance that has set a new bar in expectations.If you are looking for great value and utilitarian shave, GBS will meet your basic needs especially with a DE razor. But I have found there are thicker and my luxurious shave soaps if you are looking for a richer and truly satisfying shave experience. Hope this helps.

I've been shaving with mug and brush most of my life - it was best for my thick, fast-growing beard. Recently, both Williams and Colgate became unavailable and I was distressed. I tried the GBS, and have found it to be the best I've ever used! Really works great - shaves close, comfortable. Lathers and lubricates good, nice scent. Costs a little more, but well worth it. Glad I found it!Edit: After looking over some of the lower reviews, it seems some of the new shavers do not know how to properly use a mug and brush. Here's how to do it: 1) Press your moistened cake of soap firmly to adhere it to the bottom of the mug, then run HOT water over the outside of the mug for 30 seconds. Run HOT water over the brush as well. 2) Fill the mug with HOT water and place the mug in it and set aside while you wash your face with HOT soapy water using regular soap. 3) Pour off the water from the mug and lather up your mug. 4) work the lather onto your face with the brush. 5) Run HOT water over your razor, and then shave, first with the grain, and then against it, for a super close shave! Rinse the razor often, with HOT water. You will get the best, closest and most comfortable shave of your life! Enjoy!

This bay rum soap has no bay rum scent. It's like a ten dollar bar of Ivory soap. Gives only an OK shave. What a waste of money. I suppose I cannot send it back for a refund, since it is now wet and soapy, but I caution buyers not to waste their money on a no bay rum soap.
