I've been through 2 other off-brand Carplay headunits, and while they generally worked and sounded good, there were always problems with details, such as lousy manuals that made it nearly impossible to get proper integration with SWC and my factory backup cam. They also had horrendous looking and confusing default interfaces, as well as intermittent Carplay connectivity and other random, annoying issues.This Boss headunit solves all those issues. Great manual with plenty of information about wiring and UI controls, simple startup interface with a useful tuner, and a consistent CarPlay connection. And there's an added Boss app to get to the tuner/settings directly inside of Carplay. Nothing fancy, but everything works as expected.No frills - as it should be.

Very responsive and sounds great, great features and videos look great and sound awesome. I don’t have the rear view camera hooked up but I may purchase a camera down the road. The only con for me is talking while in Apple play. I hear the same from everyone about this and it is that you won’t have a problem but the caller will hear there echo which will be annoying for them but if you call or get a call make sure you do it in Bluetooth without being hooked in to Apple play and they will not have an echo. I don’t understand and I wish there was settings so you could fix this because sometimes you may want to talk to someone while you are using the gps in Apple play but I couldn’t find that setting to fix it so I will live with it. More expensive head units have settings for the mic but this one does not and I heard it could be fixed if you could update the Apple play but you can’t so before you purchase you may want to think about if this is important to you but besides that this is a very nice budget car stereo and it is still worth the money

Have been using this unit for about a month now. It has worked well but it does lack a few features that you may assume are included.The USB port that is used for the Android Auto / Car Play is not a charge port. At least not of any significant amperage. There is a second USB port that does charge but is not used for AA/CP.The auto dimming control (headlights on / off) in this unit does not work with cars that send a variable voltage. In my case (2015 Ford Transit) the head unit would flash brightly if the vans instrument panel dimmer switch wasn't set to it's brightest setting. I had to disable the brightness dimming control in the head unit settings in order for this to stop.

Bought this on March 4th 2022 since it seemed to pack a good deal of features and wattage for my speakers and sub.I replaced my factory JBL head unit that came with my 2006 Corolla commuter car. It was a nice upgraded factory system but it was outdated and I needed hands free, maps, and features you get in new head units.Was happy with it at 1st but then it had a problem with the Apple CarPlay USB connection. Wasted a bunch of time troubleshooting with BOSS to tell me my head unit was defective which I clearly knew.Luckily it was in warranty. I opted for the advanced replacement so I could get my problem fixed asap. Got the replacement unit, installed it and tested. Everything worked well until last month.Constant CarPlay disconnects. Tried different USB A to USB C cables and still same result. I know it’s not my phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max w/iOS 18.x) because I have a Kenwood head unit in my 2007 Z51 Corvette and it works flawlessly with the same cable and phone. It’s going on 6 years old now BTW.Now my BOSS is out of warranty and I have a head unit that doesn’t work for the reason I bought it for. I should have just bought another Kenwood since now I’m out more money for trying to cheap out for my commuter car.I haven’t had other issues with volume and screen related stuff others have described but I can attest to the Mic echo when connected via CarPlay. Many people complained about the echo when having conversations.Do yourself a favor…Pay more and cry once.I won’t be purchasing BOSS products ever again.

This product is worth every penny. The only problem i had, which im sure is rarely the case, is that I had to take out the screen to peel off the front plastic warning label. This is because the tab to peel it off the warnings was underneath the shell, but that was easy, all it took was a PH0 screwdriver. NOTE: If this happens to you, UNSCREW THE SIDES to take off the front plate, then carefully unscrew the top and push the screen gently from the top. If you unscrew from the top first, the screen might fall back and break [Edit to post] i have seen a few reviews saying that it does not have android auto... some android devices do not have the ability to use android auto. Also android auto only works over a cable, just like the apple car play. Some phones that I know that work are the Samsung Note 9 (and newer), the Samsung A12, and the Samsung Galaxy 9 (and newer)... make sure you look up if your device is compatible and if so, download the android auto app

I got this for my daughter to replace another Boss double din with DVD I bought her a couple of years ago. She wanted the apple car play. This unit is much higher quality than the first one in every wayScreen is clear, sound is great and much more responsive. If I had one complaint, it would be it only plays Windows media video files. I wish it played MP4 video. I have to take another step to convert the video and windows media creates a much larger file. Or, if it allowed me to mirror my screen for video would be even better.For the price, it's a great value.
