Stick the holder on the wall, mark the three holes, drill, put in the inserts, put in the screws and then just stick the detector in there and twist. It comes on and tests itself automatically. If it lasts anywhere close to 10 years, I'll be happy. Tired of tracking down the source of the dog-terrifying warning beep and replacing batteries.If you put it on a wall, rather than the ceiling, you will want it to line up so the display is at the top, not over on one side or the other, which would look like crap. I found that if you put the word "device" -- from the imprinted sentence along the edge of the holder--at the exact bottom when you install the holder, then twist in the detector starting at about 10 o'clock, it will come out just right. Also, if you don't have a 6mm drill bit, a 13/64 works nicely. Or close to that, most likely.

My old CO and smoke detector used 3 AA batteries, which seemed to die in the middle of the night and set off a chirping sound. It started chirping at 4 am, freaking out my dog and waking everyone. After replacement batteries failed to stop the chirping, I removed it to discover instructions on the back that said the unit dies after 7 years and it needs to be replaced. So, this new unit is good for 10 years, with no need to replace the batteries ever until the unit dies in 10 years. It has a handy LED display, so it's possible to read actual CO levels in the air (luckily it's at 0). At $31, I figured it will cost about $3 per year to help protect us maintenance-free for the next decade.

The detector was relatively easy to install, BUT it would have been really helpful to have a clear indication of the drill bit size to use (in *both* centimeter and inch sizes) to match the anchors provided...!!! I had to do some noodling to figure that out because the numbers indicated didn't make sense - they were in centimeters and my drill bits are in fractions of inches. Also, it would be awesome if, in future updates of the product, the screw holes were positioned with one *centered* over the top of the LED display so that, when mounted on a wall, the display could be easily leveled instead of skewed to one side or the other (some of us, amazingly, are not tall enough to reach it without a ladder if it's on an 8- or 9-foot ceiling, and are too old to be climbing ladders unnecessarily!)The rest of the test and setup procedure was simple enough, and the detector is happily working and doing a green flash every minute or so. I can't speak to the battery life at this point, since it's been installed less than a week and the battery is supposed to last 10 years.

We purchased this item mainly for the 10 year battery. Our smoke/carbon monoxide alarm is located 15 ft above the floor and requires bringing in a 20 ft extention ladder twice a year to change the battery. This alarm solved that problem. It was easy to install, good price and works great.

Battery life is very long. Decent price for the features.

Tested the alarm and it was really loud and easy to install. Just put it together then screwed off the top, marked the wall and put the screws in so the led would be upright. Looking forward to not changing batteries in the middle of the night for 10 years! Ah peaceful no beeping!

Muy fácil instalación y puesta en uso. Lo instale en solo unos minutos. Es mi segundo detector, la calidad de los materiales es impecable. Se siente un producto duradero y de calidad. No tener que pensar en cambios de baterías por 10 años es algo muy chevere.
