Why does it smell like burning metal when I use it? It toasts bread well, but has a horrible burning metal odor

I usually find thst new toasters do this. When I got this one, it was no different. I usually turn the toaster on without any toast in it in order to burn off the smell. After a couple of times doing this, the smell was gone. I love this toaster

The “bagel” function adjusts time, but still toasts both sides of the item in the slot. says so right in the manual. how is this a bagel function??
